Guest guest
Looking for your ten contacts? You may not get many responses with just a general request posted to the open board.   It is not that hard to get contacts, but, YOU have to make contact people!  I personally do not respond to general requests posted on the board. For two reasons: 1.) There are so many requests for contacts made on the general board and I cannot remember if I have already sent you a contact letter or not (I have this aversion to doing work over that I have already done)… and 2.) The contact requirement is supposed to be a personal process and a general request for contacts on an open board that thousands of people read everyday are not very personal. Many people are posting open requests for contacts and not even signing their request with their first name. Which personally I find very annoying! You are requesting information of a very personal nature from someone you don’t know and you are not even giving them your first name? So try and remember that, it should also help you with this part of the process.  When I worked on my contacts over two years ago, I read the board, watched for people I could identify with, people from near my home area, people near me starting weight, people with co-morbidities close to my own, people close to my age. Then as I identified these people I wrote down their names and their email address from the top of the post and I emailed each of them a personal letter requesting them to be my contact, I sent out 15 and got back 12 within 24 hours.  Today, you have a great tool at  WWW.MgbHelp.com ! There is a tab there that gives you a list of people who are willing to be contacts.  All you have to do is go to that website and click on the email links for those people and you will have your contacts in no time!  I know that some people don’t mind posting there contact letter on the general board, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. My contact letter is about 7 pages long, maybe longer now, it includes my general contact letter with all of my personal information and monthly updates since surgery, plus it includes a 3 week post op journal I did the first 3 weeks after surgery. So, I think it is too long and contains too much of my own personal information to just be posted publicly to the open board.  If you are interested in my small novel of a contact letter, please feel free to email me a personal request at sassy37cat@... . I will answer your request within 24 hours with a small note and an attachment of my contact letter. The attachment is a Microsoft Word document, so if you don’t have Word on your computer let me know that in your request and I will copy and paste it back to you in an email! There is always the chance that my prepared contact letter may not answer all of the questions you have, so I also tell you in my note that if it doesn’t answer all of your questions do not hesitate to email me again.  My advice…get personal with your contact letters, I still correspond privately with many of the people I have been contacts for in the last two years and the people who were my contacts. I have made some great friends and I have people to turn to when I had a question I felt was too personal to post to such a large audience.  Also, if you do request contact on the open board, you could list the people who have already sent you a contact letter then we won’t have to try and figure out if you are one of the many contact letters we have already sent out! Good Luck Pre-ops!  in Fla Sept 1, 2005 5ft 8 in 424/384/203 HI/preop/now  10 Referrals Hi!
