Thank you Jeanette;Sometimes i am not sure if i even have three inches, because in the subway it gets soo crowded that everybody is on top of eachother and thats when i get into a panic mode and start looking around for people that are playin games on their cell phones.I had a girl right behind me yesterday and i felt her cell phone right on my neck right above my ICD and thank God i was able to move within 2 seconds otherwise i might have been in trouble. Thank for your help. Regards TURKJeanette Lund <davitaharp@...> wrote: Dear Turk, I asked my husband about the cell phone business. One thing to remember Turk, is that the cell phone MAY provide a magnetic field only while it is near your ICD, once the cell phone is gone your ICD works normally. I use a cell phone all the time left hand right hand -- I am okay. A guard at the Courthouse even tricked me with his wand... I told him I had an ICD and I wanted a pat down - he told me he could do that - he would only use his wand below my waist.... Well he turned me around and ran the wand up my back and the wand beeped - I turned around so fast in a panic and gave him a look and I said that was my ICD! He apologized. But I was fine - just scared! or scarred!!

Thanks Guin, since cellphones transmit signals, I thought that the ICD might make a mistake and think that I am on VT or Vfib. Because when you get the cellphones close to a radio I hear some fast staticy sounds and thats what scared me. I feel much better now. Thanks againRegardsTURKGuin Van Dyke <guin@...> wrote: One thing to remember Turk, is that the cell phone MAY provide a magnetic field only while it is near your ICD, once the cell phone

I use the motorola razor with my implant. I don't use any coils or loops or

anything. It sounds wonderful!

Connie,

What neck loop are they giving you??? I know Nokia has a special neck loop that

goes with their cell phone, it was demonstrated at the convention in February.

I wish I could find the paper w/ the manufacturers number. I misplaced it and

still can't find it.

I have the CLA70 that the phone company gives out FREE (land phone)

Let me know what you decide and what Verizon is going to do with this problem.

We are currently having a problem with DISH a satellite company for the TV. We

gave up cable because it was too expensive. The captions are coming in the HD

stations garbled. Why can't big corporations be a little more sympathetic to

HOH people. I really wonder sometimes.

Have a great weekend.

Verizon is actually not giving me a neck loop--I bought the CLA7 (wonder if I

could have gotten it free how did you do that). My phone won't work with it so

Verizon is going to supply me with a new phone (not sure what or if I have to

pay).

Hi Connie,

I use an LGVX 4500 phone through Verizon and have never used a neck

loop or any accessory with it. I've had my phone since after my

activation with my CI (May 04), and love it. I seldom use telecoil

with it unless I'm in a shopping mall or at a college football game

where background sounds are very loud. My phone is CMDA and is very

clear and also Hearing Aid compatible.

Hint: Try all the cell phones in the store. If the sales person is

not willing to let you test them, go somewhere else. Explain the

situation that you have a CI, want to test them and see what works for

you before you buy a phone.

Hope this helps.

Hi Connie,

This question will always be a new one every time, or at least the answers will

be new, the cell phone technology changes so fast you could ask this monthly.

Without getting all geekie here are a few things I learned in my work with cells

phones and my CI. I tried several models before I bought my last one, generally

speaking I found the clam shell design phones (flip open style models) seemed to

work better with my CI withor without the tCoil. I read that there is a reason

for this and was told the same by a rep from my service provider, but I can not

remember the specific reason now - " Brain Fart " . I did end up choosing a Samsung

A740 last time for a couple reason, it was the best quality sound of the 5

models I tried, and I also found the speaker was positioned very high at the top

which made it very easy to hit the " Sweat Spot " on my Processor so I rarely

needed to use the tCoil. I did find it worked well just with the processor mic

in most situations, but it was excellent with the tCoil and it also offered side

talk so I could hear my own voice when using the tCoil (this is or was not that

common on cell phones at the time). I had also tried a couple models of the

candy bar style phones and had very little luck with those, but I know some

folks do well with them. My wife has a Motorola and I can barely hear anything

on it, however, the new Razar (flip style model) is much better I tried a

co-workers the other day and it was amazing. I guess the best advice is like

others have said you need to " Try before you Buy " it is the only way to get a

good idea.

I will add one more thing which might be of interest to some, take a look at the

newer Blackberry devices, I have the new model 8700 (the model number may be

8750 or 880 in the US) not only is is a neat toy (major GEEK Gadget ;-)) these

new models has a special tCoil option which boosts the magnetic field around the

speaker to enhance the operation of CI and Hearing Aid tCoils. The funny thing

was I discovered the feature myself the sales rep did not know it was there, he

just suggested it would be a good choice...lol One other nice thing about the

Blackberry is the text messaging is easier with the full keyboard for those who

like that sort of thing.

You should check with your vendor about the M & T ratings for the phones you are

looking that is always a good indication. I have some spec's on those ratings

somewhere if you want them let me know. And ask about phones that have special

tCoil modes there is probably other models besides the Blackberry that are

offering this by now.

Hope this helps, and best of luck

Connie,

Here in California we have a service called California Telephone Access. Some

states have it and others don't. Ask your land phone company if they

have any service for the deaf and hard of hearing. Phones and CLA7 are given

out FREE. Yes, I said FREE. I have one Ameriphone 50 phone and one neck loop.

If you work they allow you to have one phone at your place of employment also.

Monday, I will call them and ask if Ohio can participate in

this program. I know New York has it as well.

Nokia LPS-4 (loopset type 4). I have one, also a LPS-1, the original model,

now no longer sold..

As far as I know, there never was a LPS-2. There was a LPS-3 but it has been

withdrawn from marketing.

LPS1 and 4 only fit Nokia phones. LPS-3 had a 2.5mm plug so theoretically

could be used with any phone that had a 2.5mm socket, but that is not

guaranteed
