Guest guest
AP amputee is proud to let others know that her bf is an lp. You go ap girl! hehe However, this article is sooo much more than that too. On the one hand it gives an microcosmic view of the behind scenes of how the Paralympian athletes, all of whom are physically limited in some way, get along with each other, almost 'seemingly' like a model society should. " There was a spirit of brotherhood and camaraderie - inside the village gate, at least. " However, on the other hand, a controversy has grown out of what constitutes, disabled, or more specifically to ensure that those in each of whatever limiting category they may belong to, that they each get to 'fairly' compete against others of the 'same' limiting ability and not with another who may limited but whose limitation is stronger than those of a 'differing' limiting. The one part I cringed from the writer is not the dating between the different groups which is cool:), or from the controversy of the definition of what is disabled, but his constant use of the word, midget:(, rather than dwarf. http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/ready-willing-and-disabled/2008/09/26/122221752\ 3699.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1 ------------------------------------------------- " Back in the saddle: Boy with rare disease is third dwarf to receive intricate surgery, " with pic. This is about Drake's recovery:) from recent surgery. http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_10560111?nclick_check=1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Our own Helen makes the news:), with pics. http://www.herald-mail.com/?cmd=displaystory & story_id=204222 & format=html ------------------------------------------------------------- " Helping kids break stereotypes. " First graders learn firsthand about disabilities and respect, " and of what 'terms' are preferred for people of differing groups, including the one for us. http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0929/p03s03-usgn.html and here with a (supposed) vid, but it didn't play for me. http://www.necn.com/Boston/Health/Teacher-challenges-stereotypes-at-an-early-age\ /1222135477.html --------------------------------------------------- Pee Wee , a 'pioneer' lp wrestler has died, September 16th. He was 75. He is remembered honored in the following Canadian news links. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2008/09/28/6910731.html and here too: http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/city/story.html?id=eb0e7e8d-ed7e-4c56-a\ 9c7-3fc519d2deff --------------------------- " Mom on ‘Little People, Big World’ says ‘everyone has to lighten up’. " http://www.rrstar.com/homepage/x1824789454/Mom-on-Little-People-Big-World-says-e\ veryone-has-to-lighten-up ----------------------------------------- A 'mish mash'-ian article includes, MARIE MAROLDO, 1901-1979, a Munchkin, with a pic of her and her husband who was also an lp. She is remembered oddly so with other dead celebs whose tombstones are also near the writer. Perhaps this written because Halloween is coming up? You must scroll down to find her. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/bands/2008/sep/27/famous-former-neighbors-\ the-article-plus-misheard-/ ------------------------------------- And speaking of Munchkins, a reader writes in because he remembers his mom telling him that there were little people in his family tree, back in the day. http://www.thetimesonline.com/articles/2008/09/12/columnists/offbeat/doc051dcb2d\ a915f5ee862574c10072cbc5.txt Coincidentally enough, once when I volunteered at a booth at an upstate New York county fair, and no it was not an exploitation booth of lps:P, rather an info one. I had an ap family, a mom and her kids, come up to tell me that they had recently discovered that they had an lp, a male like myself, in their family tree. However, it was like in the 1800's... still it was fascinating to hear their account of him. ------------------------------------------------------------------ That's all for now, Ffolkes! grady:)
