Hello Dr. Rutledge and those of you who have had babies post-op.

I have a few questions.

I've searched archives & manual thoroughly and have not found

information about post-op, pre-natal care. There are recommendations

for what we should be taking for average post-op patients (3

multis/day) however where do we find info for how that translates to

what a pregnant post-op should be consuming?

Recently at my OB visit - the physician wrote me a script for a

pre-natal vitamin duo (1 prenatal & 1 Omega 3 per day). When I

reminded her that I do not have the same digestive system as the

average patient, she said that she would have to research a few

things. She mentioned how dangerous it was to have TOO MUCH of some

vitamins and minerals and doesn't want me loading up on vitamins

thinking that I'm doing the best thing when I'm not. (I actually saw

a post with similar concerns on here recently.)

I've emailed a few people on the board who have posted questions

similar to mine but I either do not get a response or the other

post-ops are just as confused as I am. We have vowed to help each

other so whoever gets the info first - we will share. We just need to

get the info to share it.

Dr. Rutledge, where can I look to get this information? Where can my

OB look to learn and understand the MGB intestines to know how to

properly prescribe pre-natal vitamins? Are there any other special

blood tests that should be done throughout a pregnancy?

Thank you kindly for your help with this.

Warm regards,

P.

Hi,

When I started search about MGB also I joined

OSSG-pregnant .

This list is for women who have had bariatric surgery

(WLS, weight loss surgery, gastric bypass,

gastroplasty, lap band, duodenal switch, GBP, SRVG,

Fobi, etc.) who are pregnant, interested in becoming

pregnant, or who have been pregnant following their

surgery.

But I would like to hear something about pregnancy

after surgery from Dr. Rutledge too.

Hulya.

,

I had twins in 2005 and I I just had a baby on November 28, 2007. When I asked

the question, Dr. Rutledge said to do what my OB recommended. I took one

prenatal a day. I am a long way out from surgery. My labs were and are fine.

How far out are you?
