Little People of America (LPA) is seeking workshop presenters for our 53rd Annual Conference that will be held July 1 – July 8, 2011 in Anaheim, California. LPA is a non-profit organization devoted to the medical, professional, and social well-being of individuals with short stature (4'10 " and under) caused by one of the more than 200 medical forms of dwarfism. Approximately 3000 members from around the world will gather in Orange County. Free medical clinics, informational workshops, and socializing with peers in a welcoming environment are the cornerstones of the conference. Off-site tours and on-site social activities are organized daily to round out the conference experience. Many families make this conference their vacation destination for the year. The majority of workshops will occur Sunday, July 3 through Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Sunday, July 3 is devoted to medical workshops given by members of the Medical Advisory Board, receptions, and parents meetings. Appropriate workshops will be scheduled for targeted groups during other days of the conference . Our 2011 conference will include two keynote sessions with Jodee Blanco, expert on bullying and author of Please Stop Laughing at Me on Tuesday, July 4. Complimentary workshops will be scheduled on that day. We are also seeking workshops for our Spanish Speaking members. The seven workshop tracks offered this year are: 1) Parents, 2) Medical, 3) Personal Development and Health, 4) Education & Employment, 5) Practical Needs, 6) Workshops for Kids, Sibs and Teens, and 7) LPA Officer and LPA Business Workshops (i.e. how to be a chapter president). In particular, the Conference Committee is seeking proposals that address these issues: - Medical Issues and Healthcare Access (insurance questions) - Information and Resources for parents (Birth to three, IEPs, school modifications, etc). The LPA National Parent Coordinator leads most parent workshops, but anyone with specific knowledge is welcome to apply as well. - College preparation, the vocational rehabilitation system, ADA guidelines, and other resources - Clothing alterations, Accessible Housing/ Home Modifications, Assistive /Adaptive technology - Health and wellness, self esteem, dating, relationships, exercise Want to apply to be a workshop presenter? Here's is what you need to do: Contact Lourash at allison@... to receive a form to complete with your workshop information. Accepted workshop presenters are responsible for their own travel accommodations and related expenses, including copying of handouts, conference registration and hotel expenses. The completed workshop schedule, including dates and times, for the 2011 National Conference will be set by February 28, and will be included in the 2011 Registration Booklet that is mailed to members in March. Workshops should not include the selling of products or solicitation of any kind (unless specifically approved by the Board). The conference includes an Expo featuring information and products from companies and organizations that have a service that fills a need for members.
