Guest guest
Donna,When you got the meds, were you able to talk to the ENT about her recent symptoms? If so, what did he say? Or does the doc on vacation (or unavailble for a week) have an assistant (PA) or (LPN) you could ask about the oozing and blood? Those would concern me and I would want to speak to a doctor or at least someone similar (like a PA or LPN that worked closely with the ENT) that could contact someone in case they felt it was an emergency or were not able to handle it on their own. If not, didn't you say JinMe had surgery in Washington or Oregon? Could you contact the surgeon via telephone or skype or perhaps her regular peditrician could contact them? If she has infection and bleeding, where is it coming from and are they (drs) not concerned about waiting 10 days? A lot of questions to answer yours, but I think they (drs) should give you more information and you need to talk to someone familar with Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: "Donna" <Donna_is@...>Sender: cholesteatoma Date: Tue, 09 Aug 2011 17:00:35 -0000<cholesteatoma >Reply cholesteatoma Subject: infection with eustachian tube erosion JinMei (9) had a canal wall down on her left ear June 2. We saw the Dr for post op July 27. Then last week the ear started oozing & by Saturday it was bleeding. During the surgery, erosion into the Eustachian tube was discovered. We live in Alaska & the closest ENT is gone this whole week but we managed to get us meds to take until his return. My concern is the combination of the erosion plus infection. Any thoughts? It is pretty difficult to find many instances of this kind of erosion on the internet so I don't have much info. Also surprised she could have something go so wrong right after seeing the Dr. That nothing was seen at that time. We'll fly to Juneau in 10 days or so to see an ENT there but in the meantime, a bit worried.Donna DeBoer

Guest guest
Since the Juneau ENT was gone, I called Seattle Children's Hospital & talked to the Dr. on call. That is where we have JinMei's surgeries so they at least had her records but it was NOT her normal surgeon that I talked with. The Dr. that should be back in Juneau Wednesday next week is the one who provides some of the monitoring with our case for Children's at a morelocal level. This erosion situation has me on edge & I just don't know enough about it to understand what happens when there is infection. The meds are definately clearing things up. The smell & drainage is already gone. My worries are NOT gone. Donna DeBoer > > Donna, > > When you got the meds, were you able to talk to the ENT about her recent symptoms? If so, what did he say? Guest guest
You should speak to her surgeon directly...he/she is the only person familiar with her situation and her anatomy. If he/she is not able to speak to you when you call, have him/her call you back. Do you have email access to your surgeon? He/she needs to give you some direction, I think that is the only thing that would put my mind at ease in your situation. Good luck and tell JinMei she is very brave and has lots of people pulling for her! :)On Aug 9, 2011, at 7:56 PM, Donna wrote: Since the Juneau ENT was gone, I called Seattle Children's Hospital & talked to the Dr. on call.
