Guest guest
Oh my they are treating me with cortisone shots now!!! The doc gave me one shot that cleared up my hands in two weeks. On the 15th day I could feel the hard calloused type skin growing again. Four days after that my skin started splitting and peeling off from the pressure of that growth. He said the shot was only meant to last three days and that if it helped for two weeks that was a good sign so he gave me a cortisone shot that he said was suppose to last for a month ... thinking (he said) that maybe I would get three months out of it. It does seem like I am flaring really bad right now between the two shots! The doc mentioned hereditary also ... but I don't have a anyone in my family who has ever had it and I knew all of my grandparents and extended family well so if it was in my family it managed to skip several generations before it got to me. Not impossible I'm sure but one would think I would have heard of someone having it. Even if the doc thinks hereditary is an issue he still is noticing an unusually large number of bariatric patients with it so there seems to be some factor there as well. It may be the shock or trauma from the surgery itself but he said he is seeing it two or more years out which seems like a long time out for that to be an issue so I was thinking more about a dietary issue. Especially since I am still losing significant hair and my nails are weak and deformed looking like there is a nutritional issue going on rather than from the psoriasis. My nails are paper thin whereas they use to be so thick and strong I use to be able to use them as tools! Some things that don't all tie in and just don't seem right with all my issues. What are PUVA treatments. Some sort of light treatment? Is the Methyltrexate a pill? That sounds really interesting. I especially like that you can take it for awhile and stop! The doc did say he could give me other things but they have some long term issues. I know of someone who is giving them self some kind of shot once a week but I wonder what the long term effects of that are and she did say that she was told if she stops it will come back. Funny that you should mention the Rheumatoid Arthritis meds working ... I have another friend who swears that there is a connection between arthritis and psoriasis! Interesting. I just ordered the Renew. It sounds promising. I've been using Gold Bond it works well to soften hard calloused skin but it hasn't gone away so I am willing to try anything. Thanks so much for all the info Celeste. I'm printing it all out and keeping a list of things to try. You are very kind to take the time to reply.
