Guest guest
It's a tabloid so not regarded with the same integrity as a broadsheet such as The Guardian, The Times and basically the large sheet papers. But, these " quality " newspapers are often themselves very biased and leading and I am often no more happy with their information or accuracy. So the Express is popular...not quite low level press iykwim, lots of older suburbian people seem to get it.. but ok. I personally don't read much of one paper inparticular and neither do I have the faith in the BBC that most seem to have worldwide, some of their angles are quite shocking (we had to compare them to other news channels here and quite often they came off worse for accuracy and information and bias)...we did media studies/socilolgy and english lang and what all my tutors said basically was accumulate varied sources to get a clearer picture and gain best understanding. The press over here largely is a voicepeice for the government and pro vax, if they feel they can get some shock news to increase sales then they choose to mention vaccine problems, but they're not very often. I haven't seen the article myself but would well beleive there have been both deaths and side effects from this vaccine in line with other reports. I think to write that they must feel quite confident about it also as they face a lot of backlash over it. probably next week they plan to run a pro vaccine story though! such is the press. It's pretty logical, how is a vaccine appropriate for such a young child to last throughout their life, or remotely suitable for a pregnant lady. Yet our pm is pro vaccine and very stern, medicine is the answer kind of thing....progress! he came under fire lately a lot for supporting the other sides old leader (who supported Pinnochet and started the Faulklands war etc) I have just given up on the political process here, there's no option or sense anymore. bw Cath (uk) In Vaccinations , " Sue " <mum2mishka@...> wrote: > > I've always thought the Express was a bit too pro-VAX for my liking. Guest guest
Yes Iodine was used by traditional doctors to stop hyperthyroid situations. They also use L-Carnatine and Lithium to slow the thyroid down. Your Free's are in the lower end of the ranges so you are showing more hypo according to them. Your TSH is useless. It is a pituitary hormone and not an indication of thyroid status. You can start iodine at any time. If you don't have a Dr that understands iodine having him check your thyroid levels more often is pointless. Monitoring nodules would be about all he could do effectively. I had the same problem at first so I got on the internet to find out what I was doing wrong. If you put your kefir grains in cold milk right from the fridge it encourages yeast growth and not lactobacillus growth. So the milk you put your grains in should be warmed to at least room temperature. I put the milk I'm going to add my grains to in a jar and put it in a sink full of warm water and bring the temperature up to slightly warm. Since I started dong this my kefir has been delicious with no yeasty flavor at all. I'm not a big fan of sour so I follow Marilyn's instructions and only leave my kefir grains in the milk for 24 hours so the kefir is creamy and only slightly tart. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi , I'd eat half the grains and use a quart of milk over them. You can make kefir just as mild as you want but first you have to understand how much milk they require to do that. This takes practice. Your kefir grains probably could have handled 4 cups of milk right away. Guest guest
#1, You can ask that on the CSY discussion forum. Normally you have to pasteurize milk in order to make yogurt but CSY might be different. #2 Please trim your posts Thanks, Marilyn On Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 10:59 PM, Matheny <cathym53@...> wrote: > > > > > Does that go for CSY too? Guest guest
I have to tell you that my first pregnancy I tested pos for GBS. This was 10 yrs ago. My labor went so quickly that my son ended up catching the infection. The plan was to get antibiotics during labor but my water bag broke and he was born 4 hours later. He was exposed for 2 hrs...by the time I got to the hosp which was an hour away....my due date was still 2.5 weeks away. He was in the NICU for 12 days on antibiotics...he was really sick the first week. I know everybody is different and maybe someone on here can suggest some alternatives but having been through this I would not change how treatment was given because my newborn was really sick. As much as I am against the overuse of antibiotics and such...I experienced the infection first hand and how sick they actually do get. It would be good to hear what others may have to say. Good Luck!! I told her I would research it but I DO NOT want this. I have to tell her tomorrow and am already dreading this. I have called a couple of other midwives and even considered a homebirth but neither one can take me this late in the game-they are both booked solid. I typed up a decline letter and even stated that my midwife recommended the iv but that I didn't want it. Does anyone know if a hospital can force me to get the iv? Or if they can go against my wishes and give antibiotics to the baby?
Guest guest
Hi,with my first I tested positive and my midwife strongly suggested to take the iv. And I did. My Son was born healthy and strong and so far he has not had any side affect from the iv meds (he is 2). With my second which is now I tested negative but my midwife wanted me to sign a paper saying I would not take the meds. So it would not come back on her. I guess once you test positive they consider you to be always positive even if I tested negative the second time ????? I am 36 1/2 weeks pregnant and was just told that I tested positive for Group B Strep. I already have 2 other kids that I tested negative for. Guest guest
Oh bummer, I was going to hook you up with a midwife that would take you at this late date if you were a bit closer to the southwest. Have you heard about garlic to treat GBS? You can search the archives of this list for GBS and garlic, or if you let me know I'll email you off-list with instructions. Guest guest
i tested positive w/dd2 when i was planning a homebirth. My midwife gave me a natural protocol to take (probiotics, echinacea, zinc, grapefruit seed extract, garlic, vit c, etc) and i delivered just fine w/no complications. i don't know if i would have retested positive or not, but you can and often do change status throughout your pregnancy, so you are absolutely right to request to be retested. w/ds...i planned another homebirth and i just did the protocol again even though i opted not to be tested. again, delivered fine w/no problems. i just had dd3 5.5 months ago (homebirth)...we opted out of the test and just did the protocol again. you can ABSOLUTELY decline the abx, BUT then after the baby is born they can be really nasty and make the baby stay in NICU for abx for days after the birth (for " observation " ). If that's the case, then make sure that you bring in a good probiotic and demand that they give it to the baby. There is no way that the homebirth midwife would take you on? If that's something you're really serious about doing, I would call her back and ask her to make an exception or ask if she has any other recommendations for midwives. If that's out of the question, I would suggest that you write your letter and take it to the midwife and have her sign it. If she refuses, then I would demand that you be retested. Either she signs your letter or she retests you...keep the ball in your court. You've still got plenty of time to start the GBS protocol and be tested in a few weeks, granted if you don't go into labor before then! Guest guest
In NY at least, when I gave birth, no matter if you took the IV antibiotics or you didn't, they gave antibiotics to the baby in the hospital if you tested positive, period. Immediately start a regimen to lower your Strep count and potentially go back to testing negative, which happens and isn't all that hard to do. Quick vaginal birth, deny and decline all IV's and antibiotics, keep the baby with you in your room 100% of the time and get home asap. Once you have that baby signed out of there, the baby is in the care of its pediatrician. So, get a good ped that agrees with you. :-) HTH. -Arlynn
Guest guest
It is unfortunate that your midwife, at the eleventh hour, is not able to advocate for what you want your birth experience to be. She would probably be the best one to answer those questions. I imagine that if you signed a waiver of IV antibiotics at the hospital beforehand (with your preregistraion packet) they would have to honor it. It might help to call the OB nurses at your hospital and ask. If they say okay, my thought is that you want to make sure your partner, dula, and any other birth advocates who will be with you for the birth know your stance and can fight off anyone who threatens your comfort and safety. The group B strep thing is such a racket...why won't she retest you? You can do a vaginal garlic treatment (http://www.sgbirthservices.com/gbs4.pdf) and retest negative and not have to deal with the whole thing! All the best! d. -- In Vaccinations , " sassykidsboutique " <sassykidsboutique@...> wrote: > > Hello, this may be a little off topic, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem or any suggestions on how to handle this.
