Do put coconut milk in coffee once in a while. Prefer it by spoonfuls before

a cup of coffee other times. Prefer coffee black mostly.

Is eating a tablespoon of coconut cream give the same benefit as eating a

tablespoon of oil? I can't eat coconut oil or drink it, it makes me gag...

even the really good stuff.

Coconut cream can likely provide all the benefits of coconut oil, but not

on a tablespoon-for-tablespoon basis. The cream isn't pure oil -- it has

water and carbs and whatnot -- so you'd need more of it. IIRC, WFN says

their cream is something like 20% fat, so if that's accurate, you'd need

five times as much cream as pure oil. Of course, you can also use the oil

as an ingredient in dishes with other foods if you can't handle plain

coconut oil.

I do Amy. When desperate, I've used canned coconut cream and coconut milk.

Almond milk is watery but acceptable too. But I just got some conventional,

but unpasteurized half & half, and there is no comparison. Half & half wins

by a mile! I drink organic espresso or cappuccino occasionally, btw.

Amy,

Like you, I can't eat coconut oil by the spoonful... but I love eating 'creamed

coconut'... it comes in blocks and I just break a small piece off and chew on

it... it's very tasty and has 67.9% fat so it's much closer to coconut oil.

I think Heidi posted a recipe for some 'treats' made with creamed coconut a few

weeks ago.

I actually drink organic cream in my coffee now because I am lactose

intolerant... its awesome of course!!

I was being a dummy and I just realized how to take 3 tablespoons of coconut

oil a day (I use Garden of Life brand as well as a bunch of their other

vitamins and highly recommend Dr. Rubin's book)- Melt it and drink it!! I

take 3 teaspoons of cod liver oil each day and I can do that but I just

couldnt eat the oil...

Amy,

I live in London, England... we can get it in just about any shop here... Asian

grocers, Caribbean and Oriental ones + all supermarkets... Maybe US-based list

members can tell us where you can get it over there.

I am confused. Isn't coconut cream the same as the oil only it is

hardened? That is what I always thought. I use the coconut milk from

WFN as someone would use cream. It looks like cream and has the

consistency of cream but tastes like yummy coconut. I love that

coconut milk poured over frozen fish sprinkled with what ever herbs

and spices and set the elec skillet on low for about 10-20 min. Wonderful.

I don't believe so. What I think of as coconut cream is basically

coconut milk that has had most of the water removed. It is hard when

cold and a soft paste when warm.

Thanks for your response and for helping to clear that up!

===== Sugar!!! Hmph! I should have known there was a reason I liked the

coconut cream so much, lol.

=== I just looked at the label..........70% fat, 0.3 grams of sugar per

teaspoon - so it's probably a lot better " cheat " than the chocolate some

people here have recently confessed to nibbling. Grin.

You can purchase coconut cream from Wilderness Family Naturals that has no sugar

in it.

www.wildernessfamilynaturals.

I use it in tea and also instead of cream when making curry or sauces. It comes

in these small tetra boxes that are about the size of juice boxes. It is the

best tasting coconut milk and cream that I have tried as of yet. There might be

a delay on shipment right now but you can put your order in now

I agree with you Penny. Coconut cream is another one of those products

that contain natural sugars like carrots and beets, and it is not wise

to have it, unless you need a " cheat " once in a great while. One often

gets sick after cheating and it a good way to reconfirm " what you can't

have " , so it's back to the " program " ! lol!

But like you said it is much better to have than chocolate. It appears

as if some people have a hugh sweet tooth yet, and these products won't

help them overcome it. Sweets feed candida and cause insulin

resistance in the cells.

Hi Jeanne:

I cannot seem to get WFN's site at the moment, however, I have a question re

sugar content in coconut cream. If CC is made simply by grinding up the

coconut meat and is pure in every way, why would one brand have sugar and

the other not?

Another question perhaps someone can answer - how would eating coconut cream

feed yeast since it is also supposed to be anti-fungal?

And finally I would like to comment on my experience with eating coconut

cream. After a year and a half of watching my reactions to everything I

eat, I have learned that when I start eating something that is BAD for me,

I cannot stop eating said food. I will sometimes even binge on it. With

the coconut cream, I'd have a teaspoon and was able to leave it alone for

hours - if not days. This tells me that in moderation (as in all things),

it is not a " bad " food for me.

Cheers

The coconut cream is the coconut meat/oil etc. Water is added to make coconut

milk. I think the only reason there is sugar in the version you purchased is

because the manufacturer added it. Sometimes processors will add a thickener to

it and who knows what that might be made of.

If you look at fresh coconut shredded.........one cup is 12 grams of carbs. I

still eat raw and dried coconut on occasion and use the coconut cream in place

of dairy. Believe me dairy was a big thing to give up.

I wouldn't use a ton of it but in my opinion it isn't bad if you can find the

right type without sugar. When in doubt use coconut oil as it has no carbs.

Hi Jeanne:

After researching, I realize that we are talking about two entirely

different products but with the same names, lol.

Your Wilderness Family " coconut cream " is the consistency of whipping cream.

My Tropical Traditions concentrated " coconut cream " is more like the

consistency of nut butter - it is really quite thick and concentrated and is

made by grinding dried coconut meat to a fine powder. It gets a creamy

consistency (again like peanut butter, for instance) because of the high oil

content. In fact, some people use it like a spread in place of peanut

butter or jam

There is absolutely nothing added to the TT coconut cream (not even water)

so the sugar content comes strictly from the naturally occurring sugar in

the coconut.

Cheers

Dear Penny,

You have a very good point about coconut cream being antifungal, even

if it inherently contains sugar. Your observation about binging on

foods that are bad for you and how you didn't seem to have a problem

with coconut cream is very good too. I'm always learning too.

The best,

Bee
