Guest guest
<< Does anyone feel this theory is valid? >> This theory is totally and fundamentally bogus and invalid - but it is based on correct and valid observations that SOMETHING is going on with aspartame and it does bother a lot of people. Personally I suspect that aspartame bothers the people who have " subclinical " heavy metal tox. But regardless it does do something nasty to a lot of people. I doubt it is the root cause of the problem though. Andy Cutler

I was young and in college at the time, so I didnt pay much attention except to make a mental note to never give aspartame to any child. It was a few years after the report that sacchrine might cause cancer.
Guest guest
I remember it also and have never given it to my children. A few times I have accidentally ingested some and ended up with a headache. Kathy -Northern New York

Within hours, methanol is inevitably largely turned into formaldehyde, and thence largely into formic acid -- the major causes of the dreaded symptoms of " next morning " hangover. Fully 11% of aspartame is methanol -- 1,120 mg aspartame in 2 L diet soda, almost six 12-oz cans, gives 123 mg methanol (wood alcohol). If 30% of the methanol is turned into formaldehyde, the amount of formaldehyde, 37 mg, is 18.5 times the USA EPA limit for daily formaldehyde in drinking water, 2.0 mg in 2 L average daily drinking water. Any unsuspected source of methanol, which the body always quickly and largely turns into formaldehyde and then formic acid, must be monitored, especially for high responsibility occupations, often with night shifts, such as pilots and nuclear reactor operators. aspartameNM/message/1052 DMDC: Dimethyl dicarbonate 200mg/L in drinks adds methanol 98 mg/L ( becomes formaldehyde in body ): EU Scientific Committee on Foods 2001.07.12: Murray 2004.01.22 http://www.HolisticMed.com/aspartame mgold@... Guest guest
i was also surprised to find most gums i saw on the checkout lane had aspartame. i never really looked for gum w/sugar tho. there should be SOME kind of gum that's " all natural " or at least uses sugar. but then again, when the hype is " cleans while you chew " ... i doubt you're gonna find a gum that has sugar. i did a quick search on gum: http://www.gleegum.com/ http://www.blueheronorganics.com/servlet/the-Natural-Gum- & -Candies/Categories haha... this one's a surprise: http://worldofgood.ebay.com/All-Natural-Make-Your-Own-Chewing-Gum-Kit/1702686159\ 40/item btw... looks like you can get gleegum at wholefoods... do a store search on their website. i'm gonna try it out today! well.. .more for my gum addicted wife... <sigh> Kelvin On Thu, Jul 23, 2009 at 5:28 PM, <autumn3scorpio@...> wrote: > > > I am seriously disgruntled!! > There isn't ONE SINGLE common brand of gum that does NOT contain aspartame. > If I hadn't read the labels myself, I wouldn't credit it, but there it is. > Trident, Orbit, 5, Stride, Freedent, IceBreakers and I can't recall what-all > else. Pfffft. > I now have to drive 25 miles to get a pack of gum that won't kill me - not > to mention the basket full of cancer I get to toss in the garbage.... > > Who'd a-thunk it? > > Ev > " A hundred million miracles are happening every day! Knotheads. i did a quick search on gum: http://www.gleegum.com/ http://www.blueheronorganics.com/servlet/the-Natural-Gum- & -Candies/Categories ~~~~~ I found Glee gum, also found something called B-Fresh - but I only found them on the internet. haha... this one's a surprise: http://worldofgood.ebay.com/All-Natural-Make-Your-Own-Chewing-Gum-Kit/1702686159\ 40/item ~~~~~ Okay - now THAT I am absolutely gonna check out!! btw... looks like you can get gleegum at wholefoods... do a store search on their website. i'm gonna try it out today! well.. .more for my gum addicted wife... <sigh> Kelvin ~~~~~On-iest thing I found at Whole Foods was Spry. sigh But at least it isn't toxic. First of all, aren't they redundant? And secondly, if you're adding corn syrup (a liquid), couldn't you use agave nectar? It wouldn't be calorie free, but at least it would be low GI. I wouldn't mind making my own gum! Wotta hoot! Ev
Guest guest
Thanks!I've already resigned myself to getting my gum when I run into town, as opposed to doing the regular grocery shopping. But seriously - WHY are the manufacturers allowed to use that junk?? And I saw several familiar brands that use xylitol. Along with sorbitol, manitol AND ASPARTAME. Makes no sense to me, at all, at all. Ev Next time I'm at the co-op I'll pick up some so I can remember the name, but I know they have gum with xilitol (sp). It has been rated as actually being able to prevent cavities. It's out there, just not at your conventional store. S
