Hi Janet:

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I cannot find your personal

address so have sent this open thru the MGB site, as yours was.

I had the blood tests done as required by Dr Rutledge last August and my

counts were quite good so I was thrilled. I felt Ok last summer. As the year

went on I felt tired more often and the weight loss continued so this spring

I asked my family doctor to check them again. He agreed cos I have now lost

too much weight (I have mixed feelings about that!).

My blood check showed some areas of concern so we sent them to Dr Doroghazi

and he asked for some more tests. I have done the tests but do not have the

results yet. When I do I will send them to Dr D. and let him decide what I

need to do next.

The extra tests were to check again my protein and iron counts. My platelet

count is very low also.

One of my problems is that I have serious food allergies, these limit my

diet to meat, veg, potato and some fruits. Of course I eat bread and cereal

also but I have some problem with carbs. Whether the MGB affected the

allergies or not I cannot say - the shortened intestine affects absorption

of foods - part of the weight loss stuff.

If your iron count is low and you cannot take iron pills - have you tried

liquid iron? You can take as little as 1/4 of a teaspoon to start. You take

it after food. It has 200 times the iron of liver or spinach. I also had

problems with a really low iron count but these stopped when I went thru

menopause.

Passing out is really serious and you must see your doctor. There are no

ifs, ands, or buts, in this one.

Have you done the blood tests as listed by the MGB staff? My Canadian doctor

was flabbergasted when he saw the list of checks. I have to pay for the B6

and the E as our wonderful conservative government delisted them. If you

have extended health coverage you will probably not have to pay. You may be

short of B12, it is quite common after WLS.

You need to keep taking 3 vitamin pills a day - for ever!!!!

You need to eat protein first - for ever!!!

I thought that after 2 years I could eat more like normal people but I have

learnt that if I eat like my husband then I get tired and am back in the

bathroom. So I eat ancient grains bread with meat and tomatoes and cucumber

for lunch and late snack and a large portion of meat for supper and

sometimes bacon for a snack. I also eat sheeps cheese (it tastes OK) on

crackers. All my meals and snacks are around protein. As I can't eat dairy

and eggs I am safe from ice cream and cake (boo hoo).

You say you are limited by portion size thru weight watchers. Spinach has no

portion size and you can combine your points to eat extra liver for supper.

Did you take the iron pills after eating a big meal? They are hard on the

stomach - no doubt about that - but easier to take when there is something

weighty in the stomach.

I have had iron injections also, they are all right, not great but all

right. They would by pass your little tummy.

Let me know what happens.

weight loss after 1 year

I am 1 year out now, having lost 125#. My question, has anyone lost

much after 1 year? I still need to lose about 45# but I haven't lost

but 25 in the last 6 months. Do I need to start " dieting " again?
