Guest guest
Jeana, , All: I've had hearing problems since 1993. With my OI it is pretty much a given, although my hearing loss is also hereditary with my mom. I have SensoryNeuro Hearing Loss. My mom went through with the Cochlear Implant and I'm going to have mine in May-June of this year. She is actually interpreting for me now! It's amazing! You can learn more about that through the website below. As far as hearing aides and listening devices, please not below. - You do not need to pay thousands of dollars for an FM system. They run about $800-1,000. Please research at www.hearingloss.org. Also Communications is a very good resource for all communication devices. They also have low vision items. Alot of the Audiologist have " foundations " for low income and seniors. Please ask your audiologist about a foundation or where you might find one. Most insurance plans this year have started covering for hearing aids, at least up to $900-1200 for them. Blue Cross, started this year. I've also had United Health care. You should also get in conact with support groups in your area. They have an abundance of local resouces to help you work through all the red tape. See website above for that as well. A national conference that is happening in Washington, DC this year, in June. The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is a very good organization for more resouces. Anymore information you need, please do not hesitate to ask. I'm on FB too.
