Guest guest
I just had this procedure done 5 days ago. So far everything seems to be healing well for me. I did have quite a bit of pain the first 2 days. My surgeon made a drawing for me that showed what my ear would look like after the surgery. He explained that as time passed the hole would get smaller...it would not go back to the size it once was before the CWD surgery but it would get smaller. I was ok with that. My main thing was making sure my ear was clean and safe from this disease and that I was back on track to having good health once again. This procedure was easy for me...the surgery went well, so far recovery has been ok, and I am positive about the future. No complications as of yet so let's hope I don't come back and have to type anything at a later date :-) How did your husband's surgery go? > > My husband will be having the above procedure on Friday. We are hoping this will keep the cholesteatoma from growing and help with vertigo issures. Will you share with me your knowledge of CWD? How was this procedure for you? How long did it take you to heal? Complications? > > thanks so much!! >

Guest guest
Thank you very much Dr. Arun Gupta. I seem to be recovering well. I just hope the new ear opening is not as large as it is now. I can stick my finger right through and it kinda grosses me out...Yuck! Guest guest
Surgeons specially make ear opening bigger to facilitate its auto cleaning and making it dependant part. All bony ridges are lowered to make a smooth cavity Plus it help to visualize that 'All is well'- in follow up period. In many cases there are bony over hangs in ear canal which hinder in complete visualisation of TM and around, and need to be removed for a better post oper view. Please feel free to ask any doubt about any thig? Good luck to all DR. Arun Gupta, ENT Surgeon,India On Wed, Sep 29, 2010 at 12:47 AM, <moonshadow2447@...> wrote: Thank you very much Dr. Arun Gupta. Guest guest
My son's right ear canal was widened when he had his radical modified mastoidectomy and c-toma surgery in April. It is about as wide as a pinky finger now. His left ear canal was left in tact as a mastoidectomy was not required and so this canal is a lot narrower. It is still filled with packing bandage (the dissolving kind) 13 days post surgery and he can still barely hear on that side (which is his 'good' ear) due to the packing. It is receding and/or melting though as he has a bloody residue around his ear most mornings now - so I am sure it is dissolving. Guest guest
My 8 year old daughter is in surgery right now. She is getting a canal wall down. I hate that surgery for how exposed she looks afterward. Looks like the Roto-rooter man came calling. Looks like birds could fly in there. SO scary. Love this surgery cause it kind of puts an end to the on-going surgery nightmare. Easier to see in there. Easier to clean things out. She has had WAY too many surgeries for such a little thing. I'm feeling lonely this surgery. She has had close to 20 surgeries. I should be the trooper she is. I'm in Seattle. The rest of the family is back home in Alaska. My daughters at home are crying cause they miss me while the one in surgery probably won't shed a tear. Bleh! Donna DeBoer
Guest guest
I feel for you, Donna! My daughter, also 8, had a CWD in mid-April. Between the cavity and the stitches behind her ear (which bled out, leading to a 2nd surgery), I was beside myself. She is fine now. I am still trying to cope with the lifelong maintenance and the no-water-in-the-ear ever ever again aspect. But I have to say, it looks a lot more normal now than it did 6 weeks ago and if it keeps the cholesteatoma monster away, bring it on!! I think it is a lonely disease anyway...practically noone has ever heard of it. You are brave to be so far away from your family by yourself and sit and wait! Your family obviously misses their fantastic mom, and you are doing the right thing by staying on top of all of this ear stuff. Better days are coming! I am thinking about you and your daughter and sending good wishes for a speedy and easy recovery! On Jun 2, 2011, at 12:39 PM, Donna wrote:My 8 year old daughter is in surgery right now. Guest guest
You'd think after about 20 surgeries, I would be relaxed about all of this but this time, I am especially emotional. Surgery ALWAYS seems to run late. So far it has been an hour longer than predicted. So I wait. I know after so many surgeries, they know what works for her & what doesn't but still I worry. HURRY UP!!!! Donna DeBoer > > > My 8 year old daughter is in surgery right now. She is getting a > > canal wall down. I hate that surgery for how exposed she looks > > afterward.
