She wears two BWP. She does have the AB implant so there are some differences and I can't answer about the 3 G. I can tell you that my daughter is small and also has spastic CP so the balance was a big issue for us when she was implanted. Actually she is doing just fine with them. She wears one on each side of her body and had no problems adjusting the the weight of them. She wears a kind of halter top under her shirts which carries her processor. Since she was implanted with two from the start, I can't tell you the difference between one vs two except to say that I love the bilateral for her. She does so great with localization and in part I credit how well she is doing to the bilateral. If I had it to do all over again, I would do both again. I don't regret taking away the possibility of hair cell or any other technology that is coming along. For me she needed to hear now and that is what we gave her. Guest guest
Hi Florie - Welcome to the group. I take my Lex in the evening, because it makes me sleepy. By the time I wake up, I feel pretty normal. We all have our own unique reactions, so, I would suggest you talk to your doctor about when to take it, if you want to switch times you are taking it. He may have a reason for wanting you to take it in the morning, that we don't know about here. I have only been on Lex 3 days myself...I know it is kind of scary to start this medication, or any med, for that matter. I am taking a leap of faith here, hoping it will make my life here a calmer and less worrisome experience! Marilyn
Guest guest
Hi Florie, Just wanted to say it takes a few weeks or more for your body to fully adjust to the medication. Lexapro has been a godsend for me. I've been taking it for several years now (at a lower dose now). I had depression since I was a child. I had a major depression at 8 years old after my family and I made a major move. I also had major depression while going through a divorce from my first husband and after my father died. It's helped me feel " normal " and live a pretty normal life, (except for some PMDD). Be patient and give your body some time to adjust. I have also previously taken Wellbutrin and could not tolerate it. Lexapro has been different and positive for me. Christie " Florence Tomasulo & M. Gray, Ph.D. " <ftgray@...> wrote: Hi. I'm happy to find this group. I've already learned a lot from reading previous posts and have a question for the group regarding the best time to take the meds. My doctor told me to take it first thing in the morning, but I am wondering if it might be more effective if I take it in the evening.: Some quick background: I have had mild depression for several years, was very happy to finally quit Paxil back in February. All went well until several problems hit me all at once this summer (three biopsies, disk disease, and bad family problems). While waiting for the results of the latest biopsy, I felt like I was slipping back into depression and asked my internist to give me something for the anxiety. He prescribed Wellbutrin. The Wellbutrin immediately cranked up the anxiety to panic attacks. When I told the doctor, he simply increased my dose! After 2 weeks, I felt like I was coming completely apart and saw a psychiatrist who immediately took me off the Wellbutrin, gave my body some time to rest (the anxiety attacks remain) and put me on Lexapro last Tuesday. I've now been on Lexapro for 6 days and have noticed a tremendous improvement in both my depression and anxiety. I am looking forward to continued improvement. My one problem is that I am awakening very early in the morning feeling 'speedy' and cannot get back to sleep. I usually get up around 6 or 7, take my pill (10mg)and feel much better within a few hours. Afternoons and evenings are pretty good-- especially compared to where I was just a few weeks ago when I was extremely depressed and having nearly constant panic attacks. I'd appreciate any input from those who might have some ideas about the early morning awakenings feeling speedy--this was happening before I began the Lexapro and I wonder if it will pass as I continue to take the medication, or if I need to tweak the time or the dosage. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any advice or reassurance you could provide. I really feel confident that Lexapro is going to help me through this rough time, just need a little advice on how to best make use of it. Hi - I think it is just the weaning on process that is making me tired, although, Paxil did the same thing to me. So, I take it at night, under my doctor's advice. My experience is that first it makes me drowsy, then, by morning, I am energized. So, we will see what happens over time.. Interesting how our bodies react differently to the same med. Guest guest
I plan to speak to my doctor about changing the time of day I take it when I see him next week, Hi, I was also considering changing the time I take the Lex. I don't want to skip one dose and I don't want to take an extra dose at night if I already took one in the morning. Guess I will see what the Doc says. ann
Guest guest
Hi there! I would like to hear from some of you that have started Lexapro for anxiety, what were your symptoms? We had a hard time deciding if my symptoms were bad enough to be on something. I just am so curious about this drug. Someone here said that now they are depressed on Lexapro and they weren't before. Maybe that is because in the beginning we feel a little " weird " on it, maybe its not depressed. What are your thoughts? Thanks,
Guest guest
! I am so sorry that you are going through all that. You will be in my prayers! I don't have anything like that.........just the stomach feeling jittery and just worry about stuff all the time. I am still able to do my daily job of teaching piano and it hasn't affected that yet, thank God! In time I hope that you will do better, I don't have magic words for you because this is all new to me. I have a great job, great marriage, great married girls and 3 wonderful grandsons. I am not even sure what triggered this other than my health. I have PSVT, which is a heart arrhythmia, and I'm on a pill for that. I have high blood pressure, another pill, I am a diabetic, another pill, and I have been in menopause for 9 years, I am 49. So, I take lots of pills and that bothers me, so they say my anxiety is over my health. Who knows.......I guess it is. I hope you feel better and this board helps us! I also take lots of other meds for high blood pressure, my blood sugar runs high, and my doctor tells me it is most likely only a matter of time before I get diabetes, even though I exercise and take pretty good care of myself. I also have 3 grandchildren, and a good marriage. You are younger than I am....I am 53. But, we are close in age...amazing. I wonder how many of us have similarites we don't know about yet? Guest guest
susan., I said I was on it for anxiety and got depressed as of now which is about 6 months after starting. I am alison by the way. symptoms... my anxiety is awful so no question. I have visible tremors and shaking, shortness of breath, dizzy, feelings of drowning or doom .. intense fear, my body feels like electricity ..like a live wire is running through, stomach upset, fear of dying. heart beats out of my chest, insomnia. the list goes on and on. I have panic attacks general anxiety and agoraphobia. I never felt depressed only the anxiety end..though they say the two go together really. I think the roots may be somewhat the same in terms of trauma or cause for feelings ( I have no idea about the chemical nature in terms if similarities and differences) it is only in the last month or so ..that I want to burst into tears daily . i am having more trouble doing things.. BUT I want you to know my anxiety is not under control and has been going on for a year. this is coupled with health issues that cause daily pain and I am also in a financial crisis due to disability check issues.. so all these things may be contributing to more depressed feelings. still..the depression does not even seem to be connected to anything ..not like specific thoughts ...it is just there. I feel like I have to hide behind my sunglasses because I may break into uncontrolled tears at any moment. this is new for me. alison On Mon, 29 Aug 2005 11:31:03 EDT susanb4piano@... writes: > Hi there! Guest guest
thank you .. I wish youwell alsoo. my anxiety ..In MY opinion is over my health also ( and a few other things like e in all forms) but health is what started it. I got real sick 2 years ago and it has been one thing after another since.. but no diagnosis..so now I am not sure if it is all anxiety ..if it is health or if it is a combo deal. I am very confused. but one thing is for sure. I do have arthritis all over my body at 35 years old.. and when I feel sick I go into a panic. the illness thing came 1st then I started with the attacks a year later ..triggered by a job loss due to my health issues. piano how lovely! i was teaching preschool but my training is in fine art. i worry all the time too...racing thoughts.. that is a sign of anxiety issues BUT you may be better helped by therpay there. the heart thing could actually be causing it cause that is antoher thing that sets me off is my heart beating wildly ...that is from the general anxiety and when I feel it I go into a panic. peace and best wishes alison On Mon, 29 Aug 2005 11:59:59 EDT susanb4piano@... writes: > ! Guest guest
Hi , I also have numerous health issues that seem to make me anxious and depressed although the depression is a non issue now that I am on the Lex. But I worry about finances as I am on a fixed income due to being on disability. I figure these issues are real and my anxiety is justified but that doesn't mean that I like it....I just accept my situation and know that there is no light in the end of the tunnel for me and accept it for what it is and take my life one day at a time. Guest guest
Hi Alison, My application was accepted the first time around and I didn't have to get an advocate or a Lawyer to fight for appeals. I applied in January and got my acceptance letter in May. How much you get for a monthly benefit will depend on how much you worked and paid into the system. Most of my working years, I worked 2 and 3 jobs just to keep ahead of my medical bills so I paid a lot into the system and get a good monthly check but it's not enough to live on because of lots of medical bills that dog me. There's nothing I can do about my situation. I've cut back as far as I can and cannot work. So, I just do the best I can one day at a time. No one will treat my anxiety because there are no safe non addicting antianxiety meds out there. I have addiction issues as a recovering alcoholic so no one will prescribe me anything for anxiety except for the Lexapro which doesn't always do the trick anxiety wise. I just live with the heart pounding and chest tightness. Sue C -- Re: New Member Question > > ! I am so sorry that you are going through all that. You > will be in > > my prayers! Guest guest
thank you sue C. The govt does not even have the papers yet. I have an advocate from the get go ( not cause of an appeal yet) See this may be in my favor ..I go to a clinic run by Los Angeles county for my anxiety .. they say I cannot work. they got me the advocate. I looked at my S Security statement and I will get somethign but doesn't look great I am talking 600 bucks a month ..that is not really gonna cut it..9 but beter than the zero I have now) I have TONS of medical bills and other debt I now cannot pay. when you orginally got accepted what was the wait between application send in and 1st check? I am in so much trouble right now.. no income denied by social services for cash $ cause I stillhave an open bank account woth checks that need to cash out and never seem to. the $ is an illusion.I am palyign a big waiting game..and if I am rejected it is going to be BIG trouble. You are on it for medical issues correct? not mental health???? alison On Mon, 29 Aug 2005 14:35:03 -0400 (Eastern Standard Time) " Sue Chapman " <chapmn47@...> writes: > Hi Alison, My application was accepted the first time around and I > didn't > have to get an advocate or a Lawyer to fight for appeals. Guest guest
Hi Annie, I also do a lot of turning my addictions over to my H.P. I do trust myself with the meds and do take them as directed. It's the docs that don't trust me. :-( Last week, I had a couple of really rough days when I found out it would be another 2 years before I could get my Section 8 voucher because Bush gutted out Section 8 funds. I was so anxious, I stopped eating and sleeping. Tried as I might, to turn it all over, I kept taking it back. So, I went to my own doctor because my psych person was on vacation, and got 14 Xanax tablets. That was last Wednesday. I have taken 1/2 pill since that day. The darned stuff made me depressed, so I don't think anyone needs to worry about me taking for recreation or even getting physically addicted because I didn't like the way I felt while I was on it. Sounds like H.P. @ work here to me ;-) Sue C. -- Re: New Member Question Hi! I can understand your concern about taking anything that might cause you to slip. I just live with the heart pounding and chest tightness. Really? I thought Lexapro was one of the better ones for anxiety. That just sucks, having to live with those symptoms....Is there anything that you do that can relieve your anxiety, such as physical activity, or yoga, or something? Or chocolate? lol. Guest guest
Sue ... yeah there has been research that supports the fact that people who need RX like benzos actually do not tend to abuse them. they are not for fun. I do not like how they make me feel either and i have bottles full cause I refuse to take em unless it is that bad. Just some thoughts. Be glad you even have section 8 ..out here in LA the wait list is so long they are not adding on even to the wait list. i was just thinking abotu section 8 today.. I sure coukld use it .how will I live on 600 a month from disability if and when it does coem through. alison On Mon, 29 Aug 2005 16:45:17 -0400 (Eastern Standard Time) " Sue Chapman " <chapmn47@...> writes: > Hi Annie, I also do a lot of turning my addictions over to my H.P. Guest guest
That is interesting because I have always had to take my Lex right before bed. Shortly after taking it, I find myself getting drowsy and when I wake up I am at my best. Diann Re: New Member Question > > > In a message dated 8/28/2005 12:49:03 P.M. Guest guest
.........when it comes to starting ANY new medication........you WILL feel side effects that could very well be TOTALLY GONE after a month or so !!! (...........or not........i admit..........) But I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT.......(UNLESS YOUR SIDE EFFECTS ARE SEVERE).........to hang on and see if the Lexapro is helping (within a month or two) with whatever you are taking it for (I am in my mail and can't easily go back to your post........was it anxiety and depression you are taking it for ?) I take it mainly for my OCD. (I have other meds. to deal with my depressive, manic, and anxiety " issues " ) ( " Issues " !!!...........God !!! I sound like such a pretentious butthole !) (So my advice is to be patient.........UNLESS......your side effects are UNBEARABLE............then.............by all means........ask your doc for an alternative to Lexapro !!!) (Personally...I take LEXAPRO MAINLY FOR MY " Obsessive Compulsive Disorder " ) (And ...like you ....am new to it........think i started two to three weeks ago.) My most serious side effect seems to be increased appetite !!! I've been taking a supplement, for a while, which FINALLY helped me overcome being a " PIZZA JUNKIE " . Now those pizzas are harder to resist....(I've been to Little Caesar's TWICE in the last week !!!) ....and I DO THINK it is a Lexapro side effect !!! So............if you are taking it for anxiety/depression........HANG IN THERE for at least 6 weeks....if you can..........you by then, may very well have your side effects dissapear.........and be recieving tremendous benefits from the Lexapro !!! That's the problem with ALL SSRI antidepressants, as well as Effexor, Wellbutrin, etc. It takes SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS to find out if a particular one is going to help you. It IS FRUSTRATING !!!................tony. tony. --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates.
