Guest guest
Hello Brad,Welcome to the group! Everyone's experience is a little different but overall very similar stories. Pain wasn't that bad for me after surgery. Surgery lasted 4-5 hours, in post-op room a couple of hours. They kept me overnight but for a very short time, less than 12 hours. (I think it was because I lived 3 hours away from the hospital where my surgery was performed and I didn't get out of recovery until 7pm). I took pain meds after surgery in the hospital, then two-maybe three days after surgery. I didn't have to take as many a day as recommended. (Said every 4-8 hours) I took every 12 hours. I went back to work within 2 weeks, plus a few days. In my case and many listed in this group pain is NOT what kept us out of work, it was the dizziness and other side effects of surgery. My surgery was on a Friday-so that helped me not to miss as much work as well. I also followed the time frame my surgeon recommended. Also, many on here suggest moving around (small stuff around the house) a few days after surgery to help speed recovery.Good luck! I'll say I do feel better with less pain after the surgery, but my c-toma was pressing on a vein and causing severe migraines prior to removal. I've only had 1-2 migraines since my surgery in August of 2009. Before they were very frequent and could last multiple days. Not sure if my last message got through, so I thought I'd try it again. I got diagnosed with a Cholesteotoma. Spare you the details, but I had all the signs. I had been to one regular ear doc. He said I had thinning of the mastoid...at least that was I think he was talking about. I got a CT Scan and he sent me to the Surgeon. Surgeon looked in my ear and not 30 seconds later said I had quite a deep pocket and that I had a Cholesteotoma. Well, being a typical guy....I hate pain. I am just curious how painfull is this surgery going to be and How long can I expect to be out of work? Thanks for your in put.Brad
