My son 11-year old Quinn’s latest audiogram below (hope you can see the image?).

-          10 months after 4-hour surgery for RHS CWD Radical mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty etc Cholesteatoma surgery where 2.5 ossicles and 1 tasting nerve were removed. And

-          5 months after 5-hour LHS CWD surgery for Cholesteatoma removal and cartilage repair/replacement of anvil.

   How bad is it?

The ENT is hoping to do some reconstruction on the right ear in a year or so. The right ear also still need regular cleaning cos it collects superfluous squamous tissue.

But we feel the left ear is functional as it is. Jane

Is Quinn the one that had an allergic reaction to the titanium implant?

No he has not had any implants besides the impromptu cartilage graft in his LHS surgery when they realised they could do a repair at the same time as remove the c-tome on that ear. We had our usual ENT and the otologist prof working together on that one and it was not as extensive as the RHS c-toma.

If you have the reconstruction done on the left anyway, you might get benefit from doing the left, as well. What does your doctor say about that?

The right is clearly way down, but Chloe was pretty close to that and ended up with pretty much normal hearing for a year after the implant. We were very happy with the results. She lost that one due to recurrance of the cholesteatoma and is doing well with an aid, but we would definitely do this again! The worst part is the activity restrictions for a couple of months while they " scar " into place.
