Guest guest
Hi all, I know I have seen this discussed before, but never paid too much attention as it didn't apply to , until now: he just finished up with his DOC band and now I feel a little "ridge" right above his forehead. What does this mean? Does it have anything to do with craniosyntosis? Is is just the plates coming together? Would an MRI spot if the soft spots were closed? has had 2 MRI's with no mention of a problem, but I'm a little worried! Thanks in advance for the help! Guest guest
, Have you consulted your specialist regarding the ridge? I believe that is where I would start. More then likely they will tell you it is nothing to worry about especially if he has had two MRIs. The peace of mind is worth the telephone call. Guest guest
Noah had and still does have a metopic ridge. It goes from the soft spot down to his forehead. His metopic suture was closed. I was told by our neuro that metopic craniosynostosis very rarely needs surgery and is typically left alone. So this is what we did. We did not pursue it any further. Noah's head rounded very good with the band. He had a flat spot on the back left side not related to the suture being closed. The metopic suture is typically the first one to close. I hope this helps some. I would put in a call to the Dr though and see what he thought. Mom to (10/09/97) a and Noah (05/29/00) DOC band grad! Guest guest
Thank you for your responses on ridging. is scheduled to see the Doc today because he has a nasty cough that he has left over from a cold. I will ask her today about it! Thanks, ' Mom
Guest guest
, Thanks for your response. I had to take to the doc yesterday, has bronchitis, and ear ache and conjunctivitis(!), so I specifically asked her about this. She told me his fontanel was clearly open and not to worry, he looked fine. The ridge is kind of where you described, I think: it is at the top of the forehead, more towards the left side and goes down a little (I really have to feel it again! Everyone else tries to feel it and says I'm paranoid!). She's (Doc) the one that dx tort, so I feel she's pretty up to speed on things for me. Hoping she's right as we are taking her word for it! Thanks for sharing your experience with me! Take Care, ' Mom
Guest guest
, I had to re-read your post to know what you mean, for some reason my brain is not functioning today as our office has no a/c!, and I think you may be onto something with the band. He did have growth in the top left area, whereas the right was shaped to hold the growth, so maybe the growth created a slight ridge where the plates meet as it was growing and the other side was not allowed to? Guest guest
, Where did 's band end was it right where the ridge is?? Leigha developed a ridge where her band opened up on the top half from her head growing a little on top and being held down by the band in the other part(think of a swimming pool..you know how the botom slopes into the deep end? Leigha had a slight slope onto her forehead.) I would call and ask but not too sure about the MRI... How long ago was one taken? An old MRI wouldn't spot a newly developed problem. I am sure its nothing but consult with your specialtist...its probably just band related. Guest guest
Yuck no AC?!!! Well I certainly understand your brain not fuctioning right. I see that you get what I was saying because it was a little hard to explain. Leigha's bad is full on the top because of her having had CVR surgery so it sounds like your son's ridge does sound exactly like Leigha's.. Im not sure the ridge has anything to do with plates...but OT did shave a little foam away where I mentioned the ridge was and its filled in so maybe now that has graduated the area will fill in without the band on. Wonder if anyone else has found this with the DOC bands? Take care glad I could help!
