I'm sorry but the way you said that is sooooo funny!! I'm laughing out loud

at my computer at work and I'm sure the people around me think I'm losing

it!! I'm glad that you found a place that will work for you and even better

that DH will be able to be home with him until the new place is available. It

looks like everything worked out OK.

Evan went to daycare for the first time yesterday. We had selected a

home daycare. The woman is great. Well, I called her a few weeks

ago to see if she had AC I assumed she would. NO! She has no air

conditioning. She assured me it was nice and cool though because her

daycare area is a finished/walkout basement. We picked him up after

a few hours yesterday and he felt clammy and sweaty. His band

smelled SOOO bad last night. He had avoided smelly head up to this

point!!! He was just too hot. We don't have central air at home but

we use a window unit when it gets too hot. Even on the 95 degree

days he never got very hot. My husband picked him up today and his

hair was all wet and he was lethargic! My poor little man is cookin'

in his hat all day thinkin... thanks mommy for slappin this hat on me

and droppin' me off in a sauna!!! Like I don't have enough gilt about

the daycare thing already.

We had been looking for a new daycare already (since ours will shut

down for 2 weeks this fall). We happened to find one yesterday that

was good. (I have been to almost 10 centers and 4 homes, I guess I'm

picky!!!)

So, long boring story short he will start there in 2 weeks. Luckily

my husband doesn't start back to work until sept 5 (we're teachers)

so he can watch him next week.

Just had to vent to people who would understand....

Thanks for listening...talk to ya'll tonight if I remember....

Wise move switching daycares! Poor little Evan, I can only imagine

how hot he was, just baking away. And the smell, I don't even like

to think about it, Abby was bad enough and that was in the winter!!

Beth Ann,

We can NEVER be too careful in choosing someone who will care for our

children. I myself have done my work schedule around my children, so

they wouldn't have to be in daycare and so I would not have to deal with

the daunting task of finding someone suitable enough for my kids. (Which

would have taken me forever!)

You are doing the right thing in finding someone else to care for your

little one.

The least that could have been done for him was a quick helmet removal

and a clean cloth to wipe his sweaty little head, the poor little dear!

Beth Anne,

Good for you for deciding to switch....I know how you feel about the guilt trip! My new dilemma is we have a good daycare, but they used to only have 2 ladies watching a max of 8 babies a day, now they have 2 different ladies in the afternoon. Problem is: one of them is lazy. Every time I go she is sitting doing nothing. Yesterday was in a soiled diaper, and it must have been for awhile, even though she sheepishly swore that they just changed them (there was only him and another girl) because he had a bit of diaper rash. I have gone before and she will just sit and let the other lady do everything. The only thing I have seen her do is get on the floor to play, briefly. We want to write an anonymous letter to wise up the director without getting any more grief if she were to get into trouble. But we don't want to mention her name either, right now. I think I will encourage the director to reiterate the policies to her entire staff and see if there is any correction to the problem before I start naming names. Does that sound wimpy? Any suggestions? The rest of the staff we absolutely love and they are so on top of everything, so I think I will mention that also.

Thanks,

' Mom

I think you should mention the problem to the director. If the director is a

good one (and it sounds like from what you said, she is) then she will handle

the situation with tact and respect. I would discuss your concerns with her

and be specific - then ask her if could remind her caregivers of the

importance of interacting with children and meeting their immediate needs. We

pay so much for daycare that we should expect and be given excellent care at

all times! You have a right to insist that your child be cared for in the

same manner that you would!

Please do talk with the director - you have a very valid concern and the

director might appreciate a reason to get after this gal if she has already

noticed the problem.

Marci,

Thanks for the extra push I needed, your right, I'm paying for this care and I should get what's coming to - excellent care! I believe the Director just had knee surgery and is out this week. I know she is professional, but I am concerned that she may tell one of her "friends" who complained and it may get back to her, and may suffer, or get better treatment, I don't know which! Anyway, when it comes to my son, its time to get tough, so I will have a face to face talk with her, and voice my concerns. (on a side note, I feel so guilty because they have all been accommodating ' tort problem, and are genuinely concerned, so I don't want to look ungrateful, but there again, my problem is with one individual, not the entire lot. Thanks for the advice and for letting me sound off!

I totally understand what you are saying. We love 's lead teacher, but

were having trouble with one of the helpers. We did talk to the daycare

director and the problem was taken care of. We did not notice any adverse

consequences fortunately, but I can see why you are concerned. I would just

stress to the director how much you truly appreciate and like the daycare

before bringing up the negative. I would also express my concern about him

being " singled " out. Get her take on it. If she knows that you have a concern

about that she will likely be even more sensitive about it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
