Hi Lee,

Sorry, syrup won't do it for me!!! Several years ago, I was on a diet (again) and stuck to it pretty good... i would reward myself Everyday, with a chocolate turtle candy, which I kept in the frig... Of course, all kept telling me that, that was cheating, but for cheating, I lost over 26 pounds that summer :o)

I have made up my mind, that all the diets in the world, won't help me, because I'm always on the seefood diet, I see it, I eat it!!! Now I do eat whatever I want, as I'm not going to change, the years and diet after diet has proven that... But common sence has finally caught up with me, I do eat what I like, just lot smaller portions, and taking it down a little at a time, has helped me to adjust... I lost about 50 #'s and have kept it off the last two years, I'd still like to lose another 20 / 25, but I will when its time :o)

Love

Helen

I was just reading yet another article on how to combat food cravings. It said to drink skim milk with some chocolate syrup, when you crave chocolate. Am I the only one who would not be satisfied by this? I am more satisfied by one little piece of good chocolate than a gallon of skim milk with syrup!!

I used to go on diets , got tired of them after a few days never kept them up. My doctor said to eat a little less each meal and eat what I please will keep my weight in check.

I still weigh the same was I did years ago which is not bad,

I do have the low blood sugar problem and always will, the dietician said to eat 5 meals a day and I thought I would gain a lot, not so, I divide them in half at a time, I also eat some sweet stuff but am very careful. The insulin level keeps steady with the five a day I guess.

I really think the low carb diet is nonsense , we need a complete meal not minus this and that,

I have a friend who takes every supplement there is and daily, she is doing her body no good, doctor said not to take supplements unless he orders them

  • 6 years later...

Hello all,

I had seen someone's post a bit ago about diet and calorie counting.  I can say

I've been struggling with my weight for the past few years when I had to go on

crutches and could barely move as well as after having my hip replacement.  I

bet I've gained about 25 pounds honestly, which, only being 3'3 is not a good

thing, it's lead to a lot of confidence/self-esteem issues with myself.

I can say during my physically healthy active time in my 20's I don't think I

ever required or ever ate 2,500 calories though!

What's frustrating now is I feel like people look at me and think that fatty

eats too much, I must be eating too many calories when, that is actually the

opposite problem I have.  My problem is I am lucky if somedays I eat even 500

calories total.  When you're not physically active, you're not burning any

calories, so your body isn't sending you hungry signals.  Somedays I could go

with just one meal in the middle of the day and a snack at night.  I know you

are supposed to eat four small meals, but that is hard to do when you are not

hungry!  Why eat if you're not hungry?  I try now to eat at least two meals a

day with snacks during the day.  I try my hardest to stay away from junk,

doesn't always work, but lol.  I am not a big fan of cooking and that was hard

being so short and dealing with pain and crutches to use an oven, so all of my

dinners would be microwaveable.  All of that was just the perfect storm to

gaining weight, luckily though I have not had any health related problems, so

far, from that, my blood pressure is still healthy.

I know when I'm working again that will put me back on a schedule for eating and

moving around will, I hope, lead to some weight loss.   I am being realistic

though and if I can lose 20 by the end of this year I'll be very happy!  All of

my weight gain didn't happen over night or even during a month, it's been a

" work in process " for the past few years, so I know I'm not going to lose it in

a month's time.

I will say if anyone has the funds and effort to do it, I was successful with

Weight Watchers point system.  The lady was really nice and worked with me

despite not knowing what I " should " be in weight.  I was allowed 20 points a day

and I ended up losing almost 15 pounds over a summer.  It was nice because I

didn't have to really cut anything out of my eating, it was really changing how

I ate.  I was also more physically active as well.   If I had the money to do it

now, I would, but I don't, so I have to lose it on my own.

I do worry though when I see LP's who look to be almost 200 pounds, I definitely

fear for their health, especially sleep apnea which seems to be a common

occurance with LP's and sometimes associated with weight.  It seems us LP's,

have only so much healthy prime years that as we start getting older things

start falling apart and life gets more physically difficult, as I've noticed

being 31, so we definitely have to keep on top of our weight!

It IS so easy for LPs to gain weight and even tougher to lose it. Though I'm

not wheelchair/scooter bound, I can understand how difficult it would be to use

an oven, even more a pain to go from the fridge to the counter to the oven, etc.

I think I lose weight just trying to cook a meal-- going up and down the stools.

An idea for a cooking alternative to an oven may be using a toaster

oven/convection toaster oven. I use mine whenever I don't want to heat the

whole oven for a small meal. Here's a book I got my husband's cousin for his

" Welcome to College " gift:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/0609807684/?tag=ababa-20

Another idea is using a rice cooker/steamer. Being Asian, I rely on my rice

cooker everyday. As soon as I had 2 kids, I had to think of faster ways of

cooking. So, I've been using my rice cooker for whole meals. If you have a

rice cooker/steamer that has 2 levels (one for the rice and one steam basket) it

works great for rice and steaming fish. I got this book for my cousin who is

trying to lose weight too:

Slow cookers come in all different sizes. These are great for those " fix it and

forget it " days when we're so busy. And with my busy schedule, sometimes I'm so

grateful for this wedding gift. It works great for Asian recipes too, which can

be more light than American ones if you omit the ones with coconut milk. We

have this book on hand:

All of these appliances will work on your countertop or table (with extension

cord of course. And with my Magic Bullet, I make quick sauces in small

portions.

Anyway, hope that helps.
