Hi Amy --

I am 25 years old and was in your shoes at this time last year. My right foot

had swollen up to the point where I couldn't put my shoe

on, and I was fatigued constantly to the point where it was difficult to work.

After a MRI and trip to a rheumy, I was diagnosed with reactive arthritis. ReA

is an odd disease normally contracted via a STD infection or food poisoning.

For about 75% of those who get it, it will go away within about a year. For the

rest (like myself), it is chronic.

Another possibility would probably be AS, but I am less familiar. Hopefully for

you, it is none of these.

In terms of meds, I take Sulfasalizine, Prednisone, Rifampin, and Azithromycin

(antibiotic treatment).

Please let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with the

rheumy!

Best,

Evan

Hi Amy

Welcome to the list. I pray that you do get a firm diagnosis from your

Rheumatologist. The treatments will change over time, as they have for me.

Thankfully we are getting mor neurologists and anesthesiologist involved in

pain clinics. I can remember when there was only surgery to snip nerves for

pain relief. Thankfully I never went for that. I am thankful to that the

attitude towards narcotic pain killers is finally changing, slowly, but it

is changing.

But things are not all doom and gloom Amy, after I was diagnosed and I got

out of a two year funk over why me?? And went back to school. There I met

a character that would change my life. It was a 7 foot tall coiled up

Rattlesnake named Jake, the college mascot. From that came 12 years work as

a professional mascot appearing all over Canada and the US. Actually I was

more than one character doing up to four different ones at a time for

different sports and businesses. That paid for my seminary and I became a

Franciscan Priest and am finally retired at the age of 69. Now they are

going to inject my back to help the pain. No doubt the mascot business was

very hard on this body with it's Reiter's, Ankylosing Spondylitis and

Rheumatoid Arthritis but it kept me sane a bit longer.

As an Orthodox Priest I am allowed to be married, but my dear bible

believing, Pentecostal, born again wife, dumped me because I was sick with a

pneumonia caused by mould and as I found out in the last month or two by

something I caught from her that I can still not get my mind around.

Blessings

Fr. Dave

-- Hi Everyone

Hello,

My name is Amy and I'm 22 years old. I've been having symptoms such as

stiffness in my chest/back, sharp pains upon movement, and most recently

extreme stiffness in my neck. This has been progressively getting worse

since February 2008.

I went to multiple different doctors, had x-rays - found nothing. I was

basically just prescribed a bunch of medicines. They only ones that seemed

to help were Celebrex and pain killers.

I recently moved to Georgia and found an amazing doctor that is determined

to figure out what my problem is. I have had 2 MRIs and he has done a large

number of blood tests. I was tested positive for HLA-B27.

I have an appointment with a rheumatologist in a couple weeks to hopefully

get some answers. It's very depressing and frustrating not knowing what's

wrong with me. I hate that I'm 22 and my body feels like it's going on 80.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on with me?? I will cry tears

of joy when I'm diagnosed. Unfortunately, my doctor said that when/if they

find a diagnosis, pretty much nothing will change. I will stay on the same

prescriptions and can't expect a difference in treatment. Disheartening.

I'm glad to have found this group because I don't know anyone else that's in

this situation.

Hope you all are doing well. Thank you.

Amy

Welcome! Others here can give you specifics on CA but as far as how to deal with the schools, I just attach my exemption form to the back of the health form. I hand it to the nurse directly and point out the form in a friendly manner so there are no surprises later. It's best to just act as if everyone does this, with no apologies, and absolutely no explanations. It's your legal right to use exemptions without being interrogated.

I've had my children in various private schools (Montessori, junior boarding schools and high school--all day students) plus public ones, camps, etc. and never had a problem. Once or twice the nurses would look through their files and "miss" the exemption so I might get a call. But nothing telling them to look harder didn't put an end to.

Private schools generally just want to cover themselves legally and refer to the law as why they require vaccination. Since the law includes exemptions, you're covered, too. Remember, private schools desperately want that contract so you might want clarify that vaccination status won't be a problem with pen in hand hovering over the dotted line.

Hi, and welcome!

I am in California, and when I enrolled my daughter (who is 6 now) in a private pre-school we had no issues. They just presented me with the blue waiver form to sign, and that was that. I also had a notorized personal exemption letter placed in her file just for added security, but even this step was not necessary.

Hello Everyone,I have just joined this group and its a relief to know that there are people who, like us, have not vaccinated their kids. We are at the point of enrolling our 31 month son into a pre-school and are quite apprehensive about what to expect when asked for sons vaccination records and we tell them that he is not vaccinated. I understand that living in California, by law we get the rights to philosophical exemption in public schools and may have more trouble if we choose to put him into a private school.Any information on anyone's experiences while enrolling their kids in school and any information that can help us approach this issue with school authorities in the best possible manner would be really appreciated. Thanks!!
