" When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour each day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. Lynne Namka, Ed.D. © 2008 It's no fun to be mad. You can poke your anger away! Negative emotions interrupt and disturb the entire body's energy system. The ideas that follow come from Callahan's Thought Field Therapy® and are a way to break into frustration, irritation and anger. Poking or tapping certain parts of your body while thinking of the upsetting situation can change your energy and release the uncomfortable feelings. After the pressure or tapping, the information is stored differently in your body. Your energy flows more freely. Often the angry thoughts about the issue spontaneously change after using this technique. Think about what upsets you. How upset are you--a little, some or quite a bit? Tap on your temple near the outside of your eyes while you take one deep breath. Tap on the inside of your little finger near the nail. Take a deep breath. Tap on your ribs underneath your breast and breathe. Tap on your collarbone lightly. Breathe. Your brain is like a computer. You can reprogram your brain to release your mads. The following eye movements and humming and counting put information in different parts of the brain. Keep tapping on the back of your hand on the web of your hand between your little finger and ring finger. Think of what you are upset about. Close your eyes. Open your eyes. Hold your head absolutely still during these steps. Look down to the right and back over your shoulder. Keep tapping. Look down to the left and back over your other shoulder. Keep tapping. Roll your eyes in a large circle. Keep tapping. Roll your eyes in a big circle the other direction. Hum any short tune (You Are My Sunshine is a nice song.). Count to five quickly. Keep tapping. Hum the tune again. Keep tapping. Think about the angry situation. How upset are you now? A little, some, or a lot? Tap on the inside of your little finger again 12-15 times. Breathe. Tap on your collarbone 12-15 times. Take a deep breath, a big stretch and sigh. Let your mads go. Now how angry are you? Repeat the whole process again. Still Mad? Chase Those Mads Away With the " Eyes Up and Down Technique " Think of your mads. Tap on the web of your hand between your ring finger and little finger. Hold your head level and look down at the floor. Slowly raise your eyes to the ceiling without moving your head. Breathe in and out, then let your mads go. Blow them out. Do this three times. How angry you now? Repeat these steps until your anger goes down. No need to hang on to your mads! You may have to look for the hurt and sadness under your anger. The SADS Technique Soothe Away Distress and Sadness You can release your unhappy and sad feelings. Think about the thing that makes you feel unhappy. How sad are you? A little, some or quite a bit? Start tapping briskly on the outside of your thumb beside your fingernail. Slowly tap up your arm on the pathway from your thumb up the middle of the inside of your arm to your shoulder. Make fists and cross your arms. Pound on your chest two inches above the inside of your armpits. Slowly tap up the pathway until you find a sore spot. Breathe deeply as you tap thinking about your sadness. Sadness is about a loss of some kind. The lung meridian holds the energies of sadness. Tenderness or a sore spot indicates a block in the lung meridian. See if a memory is there behind that sore spot. And tap on the sore spot until it goes away. Do the same thing on the other arm starting at the thumb. Now check your sad level. Are you still sad a little, some or a lot? Tap on the outside of your hand just below your little finger. Say out loud three times, " I love and accept myself even though I'm sad. " Breathe deeply and accept the sad feelings. Still Sad? Chase Those Sad Feelings Away With the " Eyes Up and Down Technique " Tap on the back of the web of your hand between your ring finger and little finger. Think about how you feel hurt and sad. Forgive yourself for having the normal emotions of feeling hurt and sad. Hold your head level and look down at the floor. Slowly raise your eyes to the ceiling without moving your head. Breathe in and out, then let your sads go. Blow them out. Do the eye roll to ceiling three times. If your sadness goes away, you have released the energy behind it! If the sadness is still there, repeat the steps or find a safe person to process your loss or keep doing these tapping procedures to work the issue. The Gamut Procedure Start with a small thing that upsets you while you learn this technique. This step-by-step Gamut Procedure from Thought Field Therapy gives you tasks to do that involve different parts of your body and your brain. l. Think about what upsets you.
