Guest guest
, I sure can understand your frustration. Can you tell us if you have a STARband or a DOCband? These devices are NOT considered experimental and they are both FDA approved. Your insurance co should not be able to deny coverage on this basis. If they are claiming that the band is for cosmetic puposes only then it falls to you to convince them that it is not. Will your dr write a letter of medical necessity for you? If your dr will write the letter you should have a pretty good chance of having the denial overturned. If he/she won't then it will be more difficult. I would suggest printing some information from the files section of this group's hompage and you could also check out Cranial Technologies and Orthoamerica's homepages for more information. You need to send everything you can get your hands on that suggests that plagio can lead to other complications as well as a letter of medical necessity from your dr if you can get one. Also check out the file on this group's homepage on Insurance Help. It has some good letters of appeal that members have written and have gotten their denial overturned. I was concerned to hear that you don't feel like the band fits well. If you have a concern about that you should get in to see the ortho just as soon as possible. You have the right to insist that the band fits properly or have an explanation as to why it fits the way it does. Best wishes your way. I hope that everything works out with the insurance. Keep us posted. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
