Guest guest
Hi , the front door I can hop in to get my hearing evaluation to see if I am a candidate. There were over 120 name on the list last January and one audiologist (not sure if the second audiologist has join the centre summer or not) and I was at the bottom of the list. Also, only about 8 - 10 Manitobans a year go to Ottawa for the surgery another reason for the long wait. Guest guest
Today I went shopping with my older daughter and called home to check on the younger children. My 4 yr old, (hearing age 17 months bi-lateral freedoms) answered the phone. This is the first time I have had the pleasure of listening to her on the phone as usually I am with her. She very clearly said " hello " and I said hello, this is mommy back to her. She immediately said " mommy ice cream and cones for me? " I had promised her when I left I would bring back these items. She recognized my voice and was able to verbally tell me to bring her ice cream, I am so very thankful for the her implants! Guest guest
, What a beautiful message! It's very clear that the cochlear inplant has made miracles happen for your daughter and also for you and the rest of your family. Imagine - a Deaf child answering the phone and understanding her Mom and then having a comfortable conversation over the telephone lines. You spoke mountains in just a few words. Congratulations to all of you! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Alice http://www..com > > Today I went shopping with my older daughter and called home to check on the younger children. Guest guest
, GREAT CI moment, hearing your daughter on the phone, and the fact that she recognized your voice and asked for the ice cream and cones you had promised. What a fantastic thing. On Christmas I was talking to a teacher of the deaf from Florida, who was in Ohio visiting. She majored in deaf ed, and uses sign language. Said she's NEVER seen a child use an implant successfully, and that it is so wrong to implant children. So I said, " the reason you aren't seeing children who are successful with implants is because they are mainstreamed in schools, and don't attend schools for the deaf " That sure took the wind out of her sails!! I said I felt it was a disservice to educate a child and leave out learning to communicate in English the way the majority of people in this country do. She had no answer for that. Your story just backs me up. Better times are coming, .
