Guest guest
Congratulations, dwntwngrl. You are off and running. The first real loud noise I heard was the traffic when I left the hospital. Thankfully my audi had put the Freedom Autosensitivity on one programme and that worked great, I use it in the car all the time. Guest guest
Congratulations, Debra!!!! And rest assured, that your experience for the first day is very common. I was very tired at first when I was learning to listen to sound once again. In fact, even after five years, a mapping will exhaust me! But, the everyday sounds got better, and I wasn't exhausted for long at all, so I think that will clear up for you within time. I know some people experience exhaustion on their jobs, if it is stressful for them to use the phone, etc. but overall, I think people are thrilled, and soon get used to the sounds once again. I still have days though, that I just get tired of " noise " and I turn my implant off for a while. We have the best of both worlds... we can choose when we want to listen LOL. ----- Original Message ----- From: dwntwngrl303 Just wanted to tell everyone I was activated yesterday, I was able to understand my audie speak, she sounded like Darth Vader from Star Wars but I could understand her words. Guest guest
Hi Debra, You're off to a great start with your activation. I remember my very first day of activation.. 5 years ago in Nov. I could hear well but the first few hours were like duck on helium or like my hubby was going through puberty all over again. LOL by the end of that first day things took on a normal sound for the most part.. of course it took me time to adjust to the loud noises which, I quickly found out, it was a noisy world we live in. Everything had a sound.. even brushing my hair, scratching my arm, and just plain breathing. I'm glad it went so well for you. Each day, perhaps each hour even will get better and better in the beginning. Update us on your progress when you can. Guest guest
Congratulations Debra on a successful activation day. The noise will get better. Please share your CI moments as you experience them as the group always like to hear them. Guest guest
Congrats on your activation, Debra. I am sure your brain will adjust to the new sound but you'll probably never forget this day in your life when sound was restored. Enjoy all the new treats you will experience in the next few weeks. Additional mappings will help to improve the sounds as time goes on. Remember to keep a record of what things sound like to you for your audiologist so they can adjust your maps to be more comfortable for you. I'm looking forward to reading more about your progress. For those of you who have been recently activated and I may have missed congratulating you - please accept my appology. I am eager to hear from all of you and enjoy your accounts of your journeys. Those of us who have been here for a while enjoy reading this because it helps us remember our own experiences and there are may smiles sitting in front of the computer screens.
