Guest guest
Hi, I am a Canadian snowbird in AZ for the winter. Before leaving home I had started the initial steps toward being accepted for a CI. When I return home in the spring I will likely get the call for the final stages of testing. I have met two CI people this winter and I do NOT want to be " where they are at " ! I don't want to sound unappreciative for the chance to get back to a higher level of hearing BUT I do not want to end up with less than I have now. I scored 68% assisted on last tests. I function fairly well and do not suffer an unusual amount of frustration due to my hearing loss. I do appreciate that others DO make allowances for me. I am able to teach pottery here at my winter home in small groups; I am able to shoot billiards and enjoy the company of people in the billiard room; so I am able to enjoy ALOT in my life. I do avoid restaurants, ball rooms, music events, and theater. In other words I do know my comfort levels and avoid those situations where I am not at ease. The CI people were still having the problems that I have just mentioned in addition to not having directional sound discretion and not being able to hear another in an outdoor setting with usual background traffic noise and I can hear in that situation when I get myself positioned correctly. One of the CI people still had the Mickey Mouse??? voice quality nine months later. I need some advice.................does it ever happen that maybe, just maybe the CI is not always the best answer for each individual and does it ALWAYS mean better? Shirley.................Mike are ya readin'????
