Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Okay so I am taking a debate class (just a special education current issues debate class) for my graduate program in Deaf Education. I have to present a debate for the class. And of coarse I decided to do cochlear implants. So here is where you all come in . My idea was to have the debate set up like a court room. I was going to give each person in the class a role to play to either defend the use of cochlear implants or state their opposition to it. What I need from you is your opionis or what you would say in this situation so that I can give to my class opinions and throughts from people who are actually living this everyday. I am going to present it as a hearing mother who wants to get a cochlear implant for her child but is fighting against the insurance company who has all these people backing them up that CI are bad. I am looking for opinions from a hearing mom with a deaf infant looking to get implanted, a hearing mom with an implanted child (and i know there are tons of you out there), a deaf mom of an implanted child, an audiologist, a teacher of the deaf, a auditory verbal therapist, a speech therapist, an implanted teenager, and inplanted elementary child (so ask your children there opinions ), a hearing father of an implanted teenager, and a hearing parent of a deaf child who might be older who does not have an implant yet. Does this make any sense to anyone? I hope so. I know that my class and myself appriciate all of your input. It is so good for people who are not familiar with CI to be exposed to what parents are thinking and feeling about CIs. Again your help is greatly appriciated (and maybe one day one of these regular education teachers will be teaching your child with an implant and might just know something about it - at least that is my hope.) Thanks again,
