Guest guest
Mari - who is happy to have left Austin (mold capital of the country) to live in the Arizona desert Hi Mari, I especially am interested in the fact that you moved to Arizona! I have MCS and my brother & wife who live in Sun City West just outside Phoenix, have been talking with us about moving out there. Is it possible that that area would be good for me? Do you know of others there who have MCS and/or mold problems they are recovering from? As it stands now we plan to move to Tennessee, where we retired to in 95--we will rent and see how I do there--if I have a lot less problem, we will probably stay there---otherwise, we would consider moving out west. So your input would really be appreciated! Ruth

Guest guest
Bryce... I got MCS in AZ and would NOT recommend the Phoenix area...nor the strip between Phx and Tucson. As that is all cotton fields and are sprayed with pesticides. You also have a very heavy wind that carries the pesticides to other areas. THere is a very heavy concentration of MCS people in NM. They are far more advanced than other states in that there are more activists and even EMS knows how to transport if necessary. There are NO drs in the PHX area who could treat you. Dr. Doris Rapp the childrens top allergist does not treat adults. All the naturopaths there will further injure you and the Naturopathic Clinic at SW will poison you to no end, as they are a bunch of quacks,,,, I can state that with assurity. There is a MCS group in the PHX area their email addy is csssphx It is a very low volume discussion group. or try mcs-ci-heal Remember one thing, if their are cotton fields then there will be chemcials drifts and Phx is in a valley....not safe by any stretch and also the dust that blows carries its own set of problems. Guest guest
Hi Angel, Thank you so much for the info on Phoenix area Re: MCS . I copied it and will include it in my next letter to my brother out there. I have talked with folks in New Mexico and learned much the same as you have mentioned. Far too expensive to live there is the bottom line!! One resident warned me that if we didn't have a ton of money to spend on housing, we should NOT consider moving out there. What we need is for the other states to become aware and active in this problem. The information that you have given in this post is exactly the type of info that we all need BEFORE we make a move to another area of the country!!!!! So far I have no idea about the risk I stand when we move back to Cookeville, TN---all I am going on is the fact that we lived there for 3 years (95 to 98) and I was fine. I developed this MCS since we moved here to Athens, Georgia area a year and a half ago from our 4 years spent in Colorado, so it is " up in the air " as to the potential for harm in Tennessee--it is mid-state between Nashville and Knoxville, a small town with little industry and far less humidity than we have here in NE Georgia. We have been having several rainy days now and the humidity in our house is up to 70---this morning I'm experiencing a lot of pressure and tightness in my chest---turned the air conditioner up because Bryce said that it will take some of the humidity out of the house. Right now we can not afford to buy a dehumidifier, so hopefully I won't get too bad. I have not used my inhalers for 8 months now, and I hope to stay off of them due to the chemical problem. You mentioned that the " naturapaths there will further injure you, " in Phoenix---how about Naturapaths in general? I've been working with one since the first of this year with mixed results--homeopathic and supplements (B vitamins, etc.) Please tell me more about your experience with them and your feeling that they will " poison you to no end. " I don't want to spend any more money on things that won't help my MCS, or will aggravate it. Having MCS is an interesting, often painful and discouraging health journey---we must help each other with whatever information we've gleaned along the way--agree? Recently I trained in Reiki level one, as a means to help myself heal and to help others---it is a form of healing energy and I have already seen changes in my mental, emotional and hopefully physical well-being---I have more energy and less feeling of despair and also my relationship to God has deepened---I am now at a place where I can even consider a future of service to others (I used to be a massage therapist, so energy work is familiar to me.) If anyone is interested in learning more about Reiki, please let me know--I've discovered a wonderful site for Christians who practice it, since I would not do it otherwise. Hope to hear more from you! Thanks again. Ruth Thanks again very much!!!! Ruth

You willnot get states to accept and accommodate MCS. YOu need to do it at the federal level and too many people feign the inability to even write a letter claiming that they are sooooooooooooooooo sick. YET they are strong enough to go on line and send letters to discussion groups. I am still trying to figure out the difference between the two. Now, you have people who even PROVIDE the form letter and all they have to do is fill in their name and forward it and do they do that oh NOOOOOOOOOO! Don't get me started on getting things done. I had to bust my ass to get MCS to NOT be classified as psycholigcal here in NV when I went for it. I fought and won and got it under the correct term toxic encephalopathy. At that time I needed the money etc but I was DAMNED if I was going to settle for a catch all term and further set back this illness getting recognized as physical vs psychological. I have pissed off enough elected officals in this state that I usually get the accommodations I DEMAND...I don't bother asking anymore. Kid gloves are off...been in the trenches too long and I don't care if you get pissed/annoyed whatever..the stores, buisness etc, that I deal with are accommodating me and I have somewhat of a life becasue of it. IN MY OPINION...this way they can not try to sue me..... THe QUACKS and INCONSISDERATE SO CALLED DOCTORS that came out of SW will put you in your grave. I know, they poisoned me and refused to try and help prevetn further injury. They REFUSED when asked how they would treat someone with MCS if they came to their office...the LOVING response was...well, I'd make it unpleasant for them as my fragrance is more important. Also they have another IDIOT aside from Micahel Cronin ND...who is now an executive at GAIA herbs....which are losey to begin with...is a so called EXPERT at the college for environmental medicine. Again a CLUELESS ewonder. I have found that the training the so called DOCTORS at SW got was substandard. As someone who was on the admissions committe...I saw what they were letting in and I was scared...made me wonder who was sitting in class next to me. I had a true medical school foundation in the sciences where as over 90%!!! of my classmates took *classes* offered by the school. There is NO way you can get enough of a foundation with those rinky dink qualifing classes. Also, the teachers made the course work so easy you had to be a moron to not pass. The so called lectures were a SIMPLE course review for anyone who actually had a true undergrad science class. Also, naturopaths are suppoe to first do no harm...use natural subwtances...then why are they ALLOWED now in AZ to rx drugs...some were trying to do abortions!!!!!!!!!!!! THey want to be MD's but are circumventing it by going to ND school. THey are not following the true meaning of holistic. I am working with an acupunturist also an alloapthic doctor who specializes in MCS but also has training in natural. So she fits her treatment protocol to their needs and comfort level of treatment. That's why I like homeopathy, I can experiment and not have the side effects of allopathic chemical drugs. I have found that I can ID what remedy to use passed on what I am feeling at the time. Guest guest
I agree that Phoenix is not a healthy place to live unless you want to breathe awful air. I lived in the 'burbs of Phoenix twice, first time in 1994-1995, the second time from 1997-1999 with my husband. Back in 94/95, I thought it was a great place to live. With so many people moving to that area (Phoenix & its 'burbs) in the last 10 years, the air had gotten so bad that you could actually see the brown cloud/air hover just above the nearby mountains. Everyone I knew was on some kind of prescription allergy meds. As for me, I went to an acupuncturist & took allergy supplements...then I realized living there wasn't worth it anymore. My next mistake was moving to North Carolina with hubby a few years ago. With visible pollen in the Spring (yellow pollen on cars & side of the roads), sweltering humidity in the Summer, freezing temps, snow & occasional ice in the Winter...this is NOT my cup of tea. Am looking into Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado Springs, or Idaho (Boise). P.S. I ruled out Austin 'cause apparently it's an allergy hot-spot. > > > Date: Thu, 13 May 2004 22:28:24 -0400 > > From: Bryce H Ruddock <brycervics@j...> > > Reply- > > > > Subject: Re: [] Whole in the Gut > > > > > > Mari - who is happy to have left Austin (mold capital of the country) to > > live > > in the Arizona desert > > > > Hi Mari, > > I especially am interested in the fact that you moved to Arizona! Guest guest
I would be leary of any place where they get snow etc. Potential for mold, mildew etc. Do you remember the ad on TV about the air in Phx? It was priceless..It was a view of Camelback Mountain then you heard coughing and the mountain was a camel! I live/love NV. Granted we have our dirty air days, but on the whole, its safe for me and a lot of MCS'ers who live here just don't like the heavy winds. But thats inescapeable, so, you just cover your mouth/nose and its over. The winds in Phx..I lived in Tempe on Baseline and it was horrible. There was so much crap in the air I had no idea where it came from. They were doing a lot of construction and the dust had to be seen.
