Guest guest
If you are going to sign the contract, make sure it has a statement in there about the mold, and about a mold expert or Dr. accepting it. What kind of mold is it? Who tested it? A tape test is the same thing as a swab test, it picks up surface dust and is then sent to the lab. If the mold is ONLY on the rafters (doubtful) it should be OK, however, if the mold is Stachybotrys and the air conditioner leaked (and it probably leaked down a wall as well as on the rafters) don't sign anything. The fact that they are pushing you to make a decision in one day should be suspect. I hope this helps. I thought I had found a house to move to.. it is six years old and it has no smell of mold ( and I have an extremely sensitive nose at this point). However, I just had a mold inspection done and in the attic near the air conditioner unit, they think they found mold on the rafters in several spots. They did not do a swab test ( for lack of time as they want us to sign the contract tomorrow) but rather a tape test. How accurate will that be? They also did an air sample test, but I am doubtful that will show anything. I need advice. Should I run from this house? It is the only house that suits me as I am very chemicallly sensitive, and as I said I sense no smell of mold, ANYWHERE. (I did react a little in the finished part of the attic, but I always react when near carpet, and I am not sure it was to mold). But I am VERY desperate to get out of my present home which is growing more and more mold everyday, and this is the best alternative I have found. This is not a rental situation, but a house I plan to purchase. So, should one be scared off by a little mold on a rafter? Guest guest
The toxins that get me have no odor at all. I can smell ASSOCIATED smuts and mold odors, but that has nothing to do with perceiving the most important mycotoxins. The only way I have found to determine if a house is OK is to sleep there. I might know instantly if a " bad " place is bad, but I never know for sure if a place is " good " until I do. -

Thelast time I was looking for an apartment, I looked at five units, and talked the landlord in to letting me sleep on the floor prior to signing a lease. Despite no outward signs, three were Bad, and two were Good. I took the best of the two, and them moved all my stuff in that I had spent two months " remediating " . As I was in a generally lit up state, I left for ten days, detoxed, and then got whacked within 45 minutes of arrival in the new unit.
