Guest guest
Hello there (and please excuse the cross-post), I need help keeping my safe place to live and getting Section 8/HUD assistance. It took me twelve years and getting disabled to find this place, which is nearly perfect, and I must stay! I cannot afford the rent, however, and I am way over Section 8's payment standard for a single person. I waited over a year on the waiting list, and my name finally came up, but now they have to approve me paying more than 30-40% of my total income (which is disability) for rent for them to give me the voucher with my name on it. I have requested a medical exception, which is an accommodation of my disability. They already have letters from my doctors, which they cannot ignore (one is short, the other says why this place is safe for me, with minimal detail). But I have to help my representative show/prove that there are no other safe, cheaper " units " available for me in this area. That is a task! The rep said it won't be easy, that it will take her a while, and that it must be done right the first time, or I will be denied. I told her that I would send her helpful stuff, whatever I could. She will need this, to be sure! So, I am trying to compile information that is concise, credible, and clear, that details everything a place cannot have, and everything a place should have, for me to be safe. With that spelled out properly, I think they will see how miraculous it is that I found anyplace at all (which it is, and I am still dumbfounded by it). Can anyone help me? I can print out things from the internet, etc. I can also write another letter. I can also have my doctor sign another statement. I don't know what else to do, but if I don't get this exception, and I don't get Section 8, there is a possibility that I will not survive. I plan to contact Bennie again, the acting director of disability policy at HUD in Wash DC, but there is still a lot I must do on my own, and I am more than a bit overwhelmed ... Thank you so much for any resources offered, Health, peace, truth and prosperity to you all.
