**HURRICANE CHARLEY INFORMATION SHEET **

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH PRECAUTIONS FLORIDIANS

ABOUT MOLD IN WATER-DAMAGED BUILDINGS

--Safety measures after Hurricane Charley can help reduce indoor air

quality problems--

Tallahassee—As Floridians clean and repair their storm damaged homes

and buildings, DOH urges the public to take precautionary measures to

avoid indoor air quality problems. Moisture that enters buildings

from leaks or flooding accelerates mold growth. Molds can cause

disease, trigger allergic reactions, and continue to damage materials

long after the storm. Failure to control moisture and mold can

present short and long term health risks.

TO PROTECT AGAINST HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH MOLD:

Remove standing water from your home or office.

Remove wet materials.

If mold growth is already a problem, carefully remove or clean the

moldy material.

Consider using personal protective equipment when cleaning or

removing mold – gloves, goggles and an N-95 particle respirator

(found at most local hardware stores). Check with a health care

provider before wearing a respirator. Do not use a respirator if you

have heart disease or chronic lung disease such as asthma or

emphysema.

Individuals with known mold allergies or asthma should not clean or

remove moldy materials.

Remember to not mix cleaners and disinfectants, as hazardous gases

may produce chemical reactions. Read and follow label instructions

carefully. Open windows and doors to provide plenty of fresh air.

For more information about indoor air quality and mold growth,

contact your local county health department, the Florida Department

of Health's Indoor Air Toxics Hotline at 800-543-8279 or visit the

Department of Health website at www.doh.state.fl.us and select mold

from the subject list.

Wait a minute! A member of the Bush family is making a statement that mold=

can cause disease in ADDITION to allergic reactions?

This is not going to sit well with the National Academy of Sciences.

Or the doctors at Stanford!

I had a most unusual experience when I was explaining mold at great

length on the phone a couple of years ago when my cat stepped on my

girlfriends cell phone and re-dialed her family - who are doctors.

They heard voices and listened for a while and heard my mold spiel.

They were upset that I claimed mold could make people ill and called

her back to say that I had brainwashed her into thinking that mold

could have deleterious effects. They contacted their doctor friends

at Stanford who confirmed to them that mold was harmless and that

anybody who thought differently was " hysterical " .

They demanded that she see a psychiatrist to help her overcome the

bizarre unfounded beliefs that my Svengalian personality had planted

in her head.

I wonder if the Stanford folks are thinking now?

Probably that my mold madness cult of " Stachysteria " is spreading.

The power of the internet is at your fingertips, Aliester.

It's insane -- the agricultural industry has been addressing mycotoxin

contamination in feed for decades, Texas A & M has what appears to be an entire

department devoted to research on it, the USDA has maximum allowable levels for

Aflatoxin in grain, and let's not even get into the military

history of Tricothecene use.

The current messaging coming out of Government and Medicine is an insult to the

intelligence of anyone with even passing interest in the subject,

and a traitorous abandonment of the innocent in the affected community.

wall cavities!!

And when the family was fighting with me and referring to their

confirmation of " mold harmlessness " from Stanford, the news

about " Weapons of Mass destruction " in Iraq featured frequent

descriptions of weoponized Aflatoxins.

No matter how many references I showed them describing effects of

mycotoxins, it couldn't overcome the one reassurance they had from

their Stanford buddies that mold was harmless.

I remember a family that was driven out in Sacramento who went

through all the usual doctor denial and went to UC for help.

They were told to spray bleach and forget it.

But they said that the UC med center was affecting them!

Kind of like that hospital in Visalia or the St 's in Reno.

They wait until a significant percentage of people drop before taking

action. Too bad for you if you happen to be one of the first.

Thanks a lot, . I live in Sacramento and I have bad mold in the duplex I

live in, and the landlord couldn't seem to care less. I wasn't plalling to got

to UCDMC if I had any money to spend, but the next door neighbor at my mother's

house is an FP there. any suggestions as to someone in the Sacramento area who

DOES equate mold with hysical ailments? right now I seem to have all the

symptoms of Leaky Gut Syndrome. Are you up in the Tahoe Basin? I have to take

care of my mom'scabin at Cedar Flat, which had a water pipe break earlier this

year, mold up there too, at least oin the second floor carpet. Biff Byrum
