Guest guest
In regard to the discussion on going through airport security, I just always state that I have spinal instrumention, and they almost always use the hand wand. I do have a picture of my x-ray in my wallet (I also have one on my wall at work :-) ), and I have a card that states I have metal spinal instrumention. I have found that all those machines are set at different sensitivity levels as some will go off, and others do not (this could be with something as small as keys or a belt buckle). I work in a large US Federal Government office building, and even when going through the same machine, some days it rings and other days it does not. In the little international travel that I have done, the country with the highest level of security is Israel. They often have you go through two or three metal detectors, hand scan, AND take you into a small room. This is done with EVERYONE, not just those that state they have some type of metal implant(s). Guest guest
Hi M, I'm sorry for the delayed response. I flew all the way to Italy and back in March. I went through security with my CI turned on and had no problems with noise or with the CI setting off the scanner. One security agent told me I might want to " take off my cell phone before going throught the scanner " but said it was ok when I told her it was a CI lol. Best regards, Jim > > TO EVERYONE: > > ANYONE WITH A COCHLEAR IMPLANT HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT AIRPORT TRAVEL? > DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN? > > THANKS, > M. > > >
Guest guest
In March when hubby and I and flew to NY (from FL) I dutifully notified airport security that I had a CI so they wanded me. That included me taking off my shoes and them checking the bottom of my feet. Clean? I hope so. Same thing upon return. This last weekend we flew to New Jersey and ditto. As usual, I sent my spare processor through the x-ray machine. I got to thinking about this. My spare processor was never compromised, so I would always have that to fall back on if my programming was deleted. I was getting very tired of being wanded and patted and inspected. This time I decided to say nothing and passed through security with nary a problem. I didn't set off alarms and my processor programming stayed intact. I know I've been cautious and others of you have probably learned this long ago, but on the outside chance that someone out there is still wondering " if it's safe to go back in the water, " I'm letting them know that it is. (One caveat might be that if there is sign saying pacemaker users should be wanded, that may also apply to us.) In addition, I no longer turn off my processor upon take-off or landing since, according to the airline, it is not necessary.
Guest guest
When I flew to Canada last month, I did nothing different. Walked thru, my dog set off the alarms but not I. I dont turn off the CI going thru security. I would *not* suggest running the hardware thru x ray. Been said static electricity is a possibility. Those of us with CI's need not do anything different. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Isn't Disney World a people trap operated by a mouse? & Dreamer Doll (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
