Guest guest
Sorry so late in posting but this week has been so hectic. I am just trying to figure out what the real question is. My daughter was implanted at the same time bilaterally. Things are going so great with her. I mean the things that I can think of that is different is yes definitely the hearing aids are out the window. We donated ours the day after surgery. I think that some of the difference is that you don't have to specifically work on one side than the other. They were " given to her " at the same time so they will learn at the same rate. Yes, we still test each implant separately to make sure that they are working but other than that her implants are on together. As far as what to expect. You see the localization, or at least we did, very quickly. We could tell that she does better in louder environments vs other kids with one. Now those that are implanted later with the second definitely acquire these skills in time but I think in from what I have been told it just comes faster when they are implanted at the same time. I don't know if that helps at all or if I have restated something another has said on this. For me it is hard because I only know what I have experienced. I can read or talk to others regarding this but then each child is so individual in the process too. It is hard to tell the difference between just individuality and the difference between implanted together vs in separate surgeries. Guest guest
Hi, We are considering a bilateral implant for our 3 1/3 year old daughter. I would love to hear from parents or people who have experience with this. Thank you! in Cincinnati http://geocities.com/sandrapeffly
