Guest guest
VIRGINIA AND KEN MOULTON BIOGRAPHY Ken and Virginia Moulton have been married since 1969. They are the parents of three children, , and Ken Jr., and have two Granddaughters, Bridget and . For the first several years of their marriage, Ken served in the US Army in Viet Nam and Washington as an Intelligence Analyst and Intelligence Briefer and later as a Computer Operator. As an Intelligence Analyst in Washington, Ken helped to analyze Intelligence data to develop and present daily and weekly Intelligence briefings to the Chairman and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Central Intelligence Agency, the White House and National Security Council and to selected Congressional and Senate Committees. In 1977, Ken left the Military so he and Virginia and their family could return to Massachusetts where their families lived. Their decision was made so they could provide better health care for their Son, Kenny, who was born in 1975 at Bethesda Naval Hospital. From birth, Virginia and Ken realized something was wrong with Kenny. The Doctors had made Virginia carry Kenny for 10 months and he was thus born with brain damage. Military Doctors classified Kenny as a " Lazy, blond haired, blue eyed baby boy@. They failed to offer any diagnosis of his condition. Since the day Kenny was born, Virginia, Ken and their two daughters have cared for and championed for the rights of Kenny and all mentally and physically challenged children and adults. They have fought for the basic human rights at the local, state and federal level. From 1977 to the present, Ken has continued to work in the field of Information Technology and Information Analysis in both the private and public sectors as well as in Education. As an educator, Ken helped to design and teach courses for the blind and deaf in Computer Operations and Programming. He worked with families, educators and state agencies to show that these people deserved the opportunity to challenge themselves to whatever their potential was. At the same time, Virginia worked within the Community to help create a Respite program for the families of the handicapped. She knew that unless the parents of these handicapped children had an opportunity to relax by themselves, the pressures might be too much to bear. She helped raise funds within the community to provide funding for the program. It was so well received that the State of Massachusetts adopted it. At this same time, Virginia and Ken realized they had to find a different home to meet the needs of Kenny. In 1988, Virginia and Ken sank their life savings into purchasing the home of our dreams. They bought it because the wide hallways and doorways allowed them to better care for Kenny. It meant Kenny could remain at home and not have to be institutionalized. The home they lived in was the " Money Pit@ or the " House from Hell@. After purchasing it, they learned that due to substandard construction walls bow, floors sag, wood floors are rotting, beams are too short or extended by plywood, Toxic Mold grows throughout the house causing illness, the fireplace is lined with wood and mold, rain water leaks through the wall partitions and exits out of electrical outlets and the roof is collapsing. Their home became a disaster waiting to strike. A CBS television news story detailed the medical problems presented by Toxic Mold in homes. The mold shown came from water leaking through roofs into homes, just as Virginia and Ken=s home was leaking. Some of the medical problems discussed were respiratory problems, destruction of the body’s immune system and loss of memory. Virginia, Ken and their family had these medical problems. This is why Virginia and Ken became so involved in the issue of Toxic Molds and illegal and substandard construction. They are fighting for their family’ s lives and future. With their fight they also hope to be able to help thousands of other Americans that find themselves in the same type of situation with either the Toxic Mold or illegally allowed construction. For many years, Ken and Virginia have written State and Federal Legislation on the issues of adoption, education, bank reporting, Senior citizen care, licensing of building inspectors, Toxic Mold and building construction. They have also spoken in public and government forums in an attempt to inform and educate the general public and government officials on these issues. After their writing to President Bush about Toxic Mold, their were informed, in a letter dated September 11, 2001, that the President told the EPA to become involved. President Bush has also asked HEW and the CDC to become involved. Vice-President Chaney has asked HUD to become involved. Perhaps this information helps to explain why Virginia and Ken will not walk away from his fight for citizens, children, education and human dignity. They know their family, and many others across America, depends on them and they, in turn, grow from their faith and the support of so many that have come to know them. In spite of all of the obstacles thrown at them by Government and the System they refuse to give up! They know they can’t afford to.
