September 18-20, 2006 Keynote presenters: Dr. Martha Sheridan, author, " Inner lives of deaf children: Interviews and Analysis " Dr. I . King Jordan, Outgoing president of Gallaudet University. Location: Memphis Marriott Downtown Hotel, Memphis, Tennessee About the Conference In the 1980's, a series of conferences was held to focus on the habilitation and rehabilitation of deaf and hard of hearing adolescents. The Gallaudet University Regional Centers, in collaboration with the University of Arkansas Rehabilitation Research and Training Center for Persons Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, are offering " Deaf and Hard of Hearing Adolescents: Leaving No One Behind " to focus on the educational experience of deaf and hard of hearing adolescents. With the increase in mainstreamed education programs, advances in technology, and newly identified effective classroom teaching practices, this conference will allow the opportunity for education professionals and parents to network and increase awareness of new programs and practices. The goal of the conference is to provide information to enhance the education experience of deaf and hard of hearing teenagers and to assist them in preparing for their life after high school. The conference will provide information on effective practices currently used in the classroom, appropriate assessment tools, and allowing students to develop autonomy and self-determination. Conference supporters include the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD) and Hands and Voices, an organization for parents of deaf and hard of hearing children.
