I am 62 years old and am considering a CI. It would be of great help

if anyone who has basically the same background could tell me their

experience, benefits and problems.

I was born with a hearing loss but went undetected until I was in the

second grade. I " baby talked " and was considered disobedient…lol. Some

one got the bright idea to check my hearing and found that I had close

to a 50% loss in both ears. I went to a deaf school for three years.

At that time sign was a no-no, you were to lip read. I also had speech

therapy. Up until I was 18 I could talk on the phone, understand some

conversation, etc. Then it seemed as if I woke up one morning and I no

longer could hear.

Since then I have been getting by as anyone would by lip reading.

While I speak very well it still isn't always clear to other people. I

have relied on hearing aids for 40 years just to hear sound.

What can I look forward to with the implant? I fully understand that

there is much work involved if you want to get everything you can. Thanks!
