Hello Anyone,

Is anyone going to be at Almater hospital during this time,I would love to do

the buddy system? I am about to have a panic attack..lol I have so many fears,

it not even funny! Especially about anesthia, complications, and Mexico. I had

a nightmare last night regarding anesthia..lol!

I origanlly was going to go with Dr. Rod at INT hospital in Tj, but decided that

Dr. Aceves was a better choice for me. It's seem worth spedning the couple

extra bucks.

I have never had any type of surgery in my life, and though I am at risk of many

diseases due to my wieight 335lbs, I am a healthy 29 year old man.

I was nervious about anesthia and surgery but never about Mexico. The hospital is nice and clean and the care you will receive is so much better then any you will get in the US. My husband was in the hospital a couple times and we were lucky if the Dr came in once a day- he'd call to check on us but in Mexico with Dr Aceves I saw him three times a day. He showed concern for me and made sure my traveling companion was taken care of as well. once you meet him all your fears will go away. I had never had surgery either but I am so glad that Dr Aceves was my first surgion. and I am so happy that you decided to go with him he honestly one of the nicest Docs ive ever met. Good luck I know you will have no regrets after you make it through the 1st month it sucks.

Josh,

You'll be fine. Don't freak out. Don't let the Mexico thing bother you either. I was pretty much as freaked as you are because I had never had surgery either...of any kind and I was frankly terrified! They are so nice, so kind, so wonderful. They really care about you. When you leave, you'll be wondering why Dr. A and his staff can't be your regular doctor!

I can't say enough wonderful things about them all. They are so polite, and more importantly, they know their stuff. You are in the most capable hands ever!!! :)

Josh,

I got sleeved in January and kept putting out calls for anyone else who would be there at that time. I got no replies. But, when I got there, I met two wonderful women with whom I'm still corresponding. There is always someone there to share experiences with and with whom you can write/talk to afterwards.

You'll love the anesthesiologist and will meet him the first day you are there. He will get a great history and review all your risks and the medications he will use. I went to sleep when he wanted me to, woke up when I was supposed to and had minimal pain afterwards.

I started out in early January at 230 lbs and I'm now down to 167 lbs. You'll do well.

I was there 3 wks ago, had sleeve.  You will get to sit down with the anaesthiologist and visit the day before surgery.  I can't remember his name, but he immediately put me at ease.  He seemed absolutely as competent and qualified as a us doctor.   You will quickly notice how accessible all the doctors are.  They want to talk to you.  (Unlike us doctors!)  You will have confidence in them, I promise.  Good luck!

I did the shrinking liver thing, too. I was so ready by the time the surgery came to eat anything other than meat! The resturant in the Crowne Plaza is VERY good and VERY reasonably priced. Enjoy your "last supper" and know that you've made a great decision. Dr. A. is absolutely the best :)

Hi,

These are normal feelings to feel-- I would be worried if you had none. It is

the fear of the unknown. You are going to be given such excellent care. We all

can tell you not to worry because we have been there and done this already.

Right now I bet you are second guessing yourself, You fear that something will

go wrong during the surgery, You have NO idea what the hospital is like. What if

I don't wake up, what if something goes wrong when I get home. Gee, you are not

any different than the rest of us. 2 1/2 years ago I thought ALL these things,

and I was 63 years old then ande I am here to tell you it was the best thing I

have ever done for myself. So I will tell you, you have the very best staff of

highly skilled doctors and nurses you could find. When you have the very best

you are going to be just fine.

Just keep talking to us and letting any of us know how you are, what you fear

the most and we will make every effort to answer any of your questions.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Hi Josh: you are going to do fine. The most important thing on this surgery is

to find the right surgeon and you obviously have done your homework to find Dr

Aceves. He is the most talented, outstanding surgeon I have met. I Loved the

hospital and the rock-star care you get while you are there. I came home with

LOTS of energy and lost 20 lbs in 12 days, then I sort of hit a wall, my energy

went down because I coughed some dry crap in my through and pulled a couple ribs

out. A massage therapist put me back together and I am feeling great once again

with a solid 20 lbs off.

I know everyone heals differently, so I wish you the best. Katherin
