Guest guest
The Wi-Fi is great but I would not chance using the phone unless you have an international plan on your phone. I turned my phone off the whole time I was there and just used my laptop and communicated via chat with my family. She is wondering how strong the cell phone signals are from the US cell phone towers and also how the WiFi access is. She is a busy person and needs to continue doing some work while she is with me. Guest guest
My phone worked fine, my carrier is Sprint. But ATT and Verizon work well too.If she uses a national carrier, she should be fine. However, she needs to call them and request or investigate to have international calling added. I know with Sprint it was $5 per month and I could add it for just one month. Even though one can throw a rock and hit the border fence, the towers knew I was in Mexico. They can triangulate your location quite well. The same feature that enables GPS on phones also let's them know you are not in the US; even by a few meters. Also, if you plan to use a credit card, tell the bank before you travel. Else they may flag it unauthorized use.-Dennis Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: "labornurse" <judyalbertson@...>Sender: Date: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 06:09:31 -0000< >Reply Subject: cell phone usage in hospital I am having my vsg on July 18th and my sister is coming with me. Guest guest
I was just there June 28-July 1. I had the smallest room, the last one on the right---we had service the whole time. Folks across the hall and two rooms up had no service. There are hot spots for sure. > > I am having my vsg on July 18th and my sister is coming with me. Guest guest
You are literally 1 block away from the border, and no one I talked with had any problem accessing their wireless carrier. There were certain spots in the hospital that tried to switch me to the Mexican carrier, but I would just walk 10 feet away and my AT & T signal would return. I had problems accessing the hospital's WiFi, my sleeve buddy didn't. But then, I brought a little netbook and she had a big laptop. They will give you the password at the nurse's station and help you log on. Good luck, I know all will go well for you. Guest guest
I went in Feb. I can say that while in the hospital- there was coverage and we made calls and had no issue. BUT while in the hotel the night before surgery, we were charged a per min fee and also for text messages so tell her to take a night off We made calls from the room in the hospital with no issue. We did use the wi-fi- also no problems. I did homework and hubby sent out emails to the family. "Enjoy your body: use it every way you can. Guest guest
I had my surgery in March and I have Verizon wireless. My signal would switch back and from from Verizon to roaming, so I would make calls when on the Verizon signal, or I would just walk around the room until it switched over. I did not have any roaming or additional charges when my Verizon bill came in. I also sent and received LOTS of text messages.
