To Lapband or not to Lapband?

Hello all, I'm Mercedes. I'm 18 and needless to say I've struggled with my

weight and it has gotten out of control. I'm at the age where body image is

crucial and I need to do something about it. I've gone to seminars and I've

researched this for years. When my 18th birthday hit I was excited because I was

now eligible for the surgery however my insurance does not cover it so I have to

pay out of pocket. I was a little skeptical to proceed with Dr. A because he's

so cheap and I've heard horror stories about back alley type surgeries and I

truly don't want this to be me. So if anyone out there is a post op lapband

patient I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to respond. Thanks in

advance, Mercedes.

Dr. Aceves did my band and he did my revision to a sleeve a year and a half later.  Sleeves are really 10x easier to live with than a band.On Fri, Jan 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM, MercedesH <cedeboo92@...> wrote:

Dr. Aceves did my band in February of 2006. I lost about 118 pounds with the band. Due to the problems I had with the band (even though I lost all the weight I wanted to lose) Dr. Aceves also removed my band this past July and performed a sleeve revision. I lived with and loved my band for 3.5 years but the sleeve is MUCH easier to live with, BY FAR! I was a hard sell, too. I didn't want to give up my band because I felt like I was giving my best friend. I haven't missed it one day. I had gained a little of my weight back due to an excessive amount of steroids due to other health issues but, since my sleeve revision, I have lost 48 pounds.

If it makes you feel any better, I also had Dr. Aceves remove my gallbladder even though I had ample insurance coverage in the states. I trust no other doctor like I do this man. Have NO fear, whatsoever, in selecting him. Whenever I decide to go through with having a hysterectomy, I will see if he will be willing to do that as well. Email me privately if you want. I'll be more than happy to talk with you.

Hi Jenni,

I think your before and after pictures were some of the first ones I saw when I was considering having weight loss surgery over 2 years ago, and those pictures just motivated so much. I am sooooooooo happy for you that you now know how nice the sleeve is to have vs the lapband. Thanks for witting what you have about your experience. It just might help someone make up their mind to have the sleeve and NOT have the lapband.

I am thrilled to know that you are doing so well. Congratulations on your success with the sleeve.

Hugs,

Suzanne
