Guest guest
Nope. You are not crazy! I had exactly the same thoughts when I was wondering how I was going to bring it up to my husband. Finally, I got up the courage to tell him that he was going to get a new wife. He said, "What are you talking about." I told him what I was going to do. I drew pictures, told him about what I'd found on the internet, showed him pictures of the hospital. I also told him that I was afraid I wouldn't be around 5 years from now if something wasn't done. He was really freaked about the whole Mexico thing, but he eventually had a talk with himself. He knows that I'm not a rash thinker and I'm not impulsive. He knows that I research EVERYTHING and I told him that he would just have to trust me. Our conversation was about 6 months ago. I got banded on the 11th of March and am down 28 lbs plus the 7 I lost before the surgery. He can see that I feel better and that I have more energy. He laughs at the things I eat, the things I don't like anymore (chocolate????!!!!!) and is really proud of me. Go for it. Or have your husband call me. I'd be glad to talk to him! I've been off work the past 6 weeks helping my husband recover from back surgery. I'm a mom with 4 kids ages 5, 14, 16, 18. Hi all. I just started reseaching this week about the lap band and actually started reading about the vertical sleeve procedure and like it better. It sounds a lot lower maintenance. 5 days later after starting my reseach, I've talked to Nina at Dr. Aceeve's and she has an opening on May 2nd! I haven't even brought this idea up to my husband yet! He's Mr. Skeptic, so I wanted to get all the facts first before I talk to him about it.My weight story: I'm 42 and have been yo yo dieting for years. I currently weigh 245, 5'9" with 36 BMI. I've tried every diet under the sun and have owned so many duet books I can't count. My most successful attempt was 2 years ago on a medically supervised liquid diet / maintenance program through Kaiser that I shelled out $4K for. I did lose 50 lbs., but I didnt stick with the maintenance phase and ended up gaining everything back! I'm so disgusted with myself and don't understand why it's so hard for me to stick with anything.Anyways, am I crazy to do this?! How can I convince my husband this is a safe thing for me to do, especially in Mexico? May 2nd happens to be the day after my 43rd birthday too...Thanks for any words of wisdom & for listening. Guest guest
, Do your research, so you can convince your husband (for me that was the hardest part) and book your airline ticket. My surgery was on Feb 10, I was 43 and my bmi was 31. My bmi is now normal at 25, and I'm not at goal yet but on my way. I am so happy with my decision. I was the yoyo queen, like you. I considered the band way back when in 2004 but I'm so glad that my skepticism kept me from going through with it. I was not a candidate for surgery in the states because of my low bmi, but more importantly, I couldn't find a surgeon here that had done more than 100 sleeves. No way was I going to be the learning curve for an American surgeon. That is why I chose Dr. Aceves. He has the experience and success that I was looking for. The recovery was fine. I had a 12 hour trip home and I never needed a wheel chair in the airports. I needed naps everyday for two weeks. My full speed energy returned at 6 weeks. Go to the OH (Obesity Help) web forums and read, read, read, and book your airline ticket. No regrets here. Krista S.
Guest guest
, you'd be smart to do this. Its the very best decision I've ever made. Goal weight in 8 months and I could not be happier. Off my four meds is a big plus too! My husband was very skeptical of Mexico but now has nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Aceves and the whole experience. Definitely the "A Team". It just could not have been any better for me. Blessings, Pattie From: mom26 <closing_goddess@...> Sent: Sat, April 23, 2011 7:04:06 AMSubject: Am I crazy?! Hi everyone, I'm new. Guest guest
You are absolutely not crazy. I think that we all have those doubts prior to surgery. I had my surgery nearly a year ago on May 11th. I reached my goal weight after about 4 months. I was a " lightweight " with a history of many years of yoyo dieting. I would lose and gain 50 to 60 pounds every two years or so. If I had all of the money that I have spent on diets over the years, I would be a rich woman. The only thing crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Now that's crazy. My husband was very skeptical and I was nervous. However, we discovered that all of the positive things to see on this board about Dr. Aceves and his staff are absolutely true. My experience was fantastic in every possible way. I am just sorry that I waited until the age of 57 to finally take care of the problem. On another note, my life has taken a very difficult turn lately. My husband has been diagnosed with stage IV metastatic melanoma and I will need to take an early retirement to care for him. He is in a clinical trial and we are hopeful, but my stress could not be greater. One thing that I know I will not be concerned with is my weight. It doesn't sound like much, but to me, it is a great relief. Good luck and remember, the first month sucks, but after that, you'll be fine. Guest guest
, I am new too. I just booked mine for next week, May 3rd. My husband is very skeptical too, but I just decided to do it and do it now. Book yours and I'll be your hospital buddy. I am 48, weigh 225 and my BMI is 38. I like you have been on every diet in the world and have done well, then gained it all back. I am sick of not feeling good about myself and being overweight. My sister had work done last summer from Dr. Aceves and could not be happier with him and all the staff. She totally recommended him to me. She also had a face lift from a fantastic plastic surgeon in Mexicali last summer and looks amazing. I know probably 10 people that have gone to him and they all look great. Hope to see you there. My surgery is early Tuesday morning. Your future skinny friend, Darcey > > Hi everyone, I'm new. I am currently on vacation in Santa Cruz with my family.
