Not necessary, but I've heard that it makes crossing the border a little easier. So, if you have one bring it, if not, don't worry about it. Anne

Traveling from Los Angeles to Mexicali to visit Dr. Aceves

After much thought and prayer, I have decided to have either the LapBand or sleeve procedure performed with Dr. Aceves. I'm still not decided which....However, my question is this: for those of you traveling from the US to Mexicali, is a passport necessary if you are driving across the border?

No, you don't need to have a passport when driving across the border.

I'm heading there this weekend for the sleeve, and Nina assured me I

would be fine with my birth certificate and driver's license. I

believe a passport will be required of drivers starting sometime in

2009.

Hi, Susy

I have a home in San Felipe and when I came across the border in April, the border patrol criticized me for not having my passport. I just forgot it that time. So, you don't need a passport to get into Mexico but you will to get out.

Am very interested to hear if you go for the sleeve. I spoke to the office last week and was quoted $9,500. for the sleeve, about $2000. more than the band. From what I read from the bandsters, the band seems like a lot of hassle. Please keep us posted.

You can still use your driver's license if you drive or walk across the border. I believe that changes in January of 2009 in which a passport will be necessary.

Susy,

You will need a US passport to re-enter the US, even though you are

a US citizen.

Hope this helps

Yolanda:

With the passport, it is best to have it and a driver's license.

I was contemplating the band too, but chose the sleeve for the simplicity. With the band, there are many adjustments, fills, unfills, and other things that may require you to seek a doctor in Los Angeles or go back to Dr. Aceves for these adjustments. These extra visits can also add up quickly. They are not free. With the sleeve it is performed and then you are done, and can just follow the diet the doctor recommends.

There are also many people on this board who have had the revisions from band to sleeve and can give you some good advice!

Good luck!

Gail
