Guest guest
Hey- Are fresh squeezed juices good for me? I got a juicer for Christmas. Been squeezing fresh oranges, grapefruits, carrots, celery, berries, cantalope, honeydew... whatever I can get my hands on. I love a fresh glass of juice. I actually crave it while driving home from work Cant wait. Wondering if I am helping or hurting my journey??? I know store bought juices can have too much sugar, but what about fresh??? Any comments?

I have tried to make vegetable juice, but I cant seem to figure out how to get it to taste good, so I am drinking fruit juice with carrots. > > Hey- > > Are fresh squeezed juices good for me? Guest guest
I heard juices were loaded with carbs.. and that you should have a solid fruit if possible also limited the SIZe of the fruit.. too much of a good thing.. ISNT good. this is just my .2smedred <smedred@...> wrote: Hey-Are fresh squeezed juices good for me? I got a juicer for Christmas. Guest guest
Last time I was in Mexicali I asked the nutritionist (Marietta) about this very topic. I told her I have a huge carb problem, if I eat a piece of fruit I'm hungry for the rest of the day. We exchanged email addresses and I asked her more details. The following is what she wrote to me. Now, I haven't tried this yet (I'm scared of sugar!! HA) but I'm going to try it: Marietta writes:First of all I loved the nutrition data page!!! thank you sooo much!!!! I have a mexican program that basically does that but this page is so simple, easy to use, etc... And I love some of the topics it has!!!! So before I talk about eating carbs, fats and proteins.. do you know what the glycemic index is???? you can check: http://www.glycemicindex.com/ and even in the nutrition data page they explain it really well in: http://www.nutritiondata.com/topics/glycemic-index and also check out the topic where it talks about the fullnes factor. It is great! http://www.nutritiondata.com/topics/fullness-factor Please read it all! I also loved this page on the nutrition data called the better choices data which basically calculates the fullnes factor and the nutritional food value and gives you a rating. and gives you better options to substitute your food for something else and help you loose weight. check it out at: http://www.nutritiondata.com/topics/better-choices-diet After you read about this 3 topics you will understand a lot better about hunger and satiety, the difference between low carb and low glycemic, and how to feel full with a lot less calories. All this topics, studies, ways of dieting, or however you want to see them value each food item individually. and even if we eat a low glycemic fruit for example, we don't eat it by itself, so whatever we eat it with can alter the whole process in our body. The advantage is that Pantry in the nutrition data page can give you the fullnes factor number for various food items together and not just one. And as you can see in any food item or items in the nutrition data website when they give you the nutritional value table and the piramid with all the colors. is that the more the food is in the center of the pyramid, the more balanced and nutritional it is. if it has to many fats, carbs or proteins it goes to that side or that color. usually the best food items are the once that are centered. That is how our meals should be. So you can add a couple of food items and see how balanced or not it is. Obviously we cannot be measuring our counting everything we eat. that is why if we have something that is carb-based, plus a protein base plus a fat-base. we balance our meals, lower our glycemic index and usually have a higher fullnes factor. Try it with the pantry and see if it works.. i'll try it as well. an example of a complete breakfast (carb + protein + fat) 1 scrambled egg (protein) 1 spoonful of oil to cook it (fat) 1 slice of toasted wheat bread (carb) that would be so much more fullfiling and satisfying for much longer time than for example: 1 slice of toasted wheat bread with 1 spoonful of jelly (carbs) even if it may have less calories than the egg and oil. Lunch example: grilled chicken breast with avocado (protein+fat) cooked applesauce (no sugar added) (carb) bad example: apple sauce (carb) 1/2 banana (carb) 1/2 cup orange juice (carb) if you eat 3carbs together: you are going to be hungry in about 2 hours after that. And probably crave even more sugar. So what you want is to always combine it with protein and fat. Even if the calories are higher with protein and fat. In order for you not to have the sugar spikes, you have to balance your meals. If you can't count or calculate everything in the pantry, than you can just clasify every food as in carb, protein, and fat. and try to have the 3 together. If you want a more exact value than calculate it on the pantry and try to have it as much balanced as you can in the pyramid. After reading the articles and seeing my example do you understand a bit more?? My recomendation for you.. would be to try this. for example if you say eating an apple can trigger your sugar cravings. DO NOT EAT the apple BY ITSELF!!!! eat it with 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. could be cottage cheese low fat and add a fat based food like almonds. or just keep the regular cottage cheese and count it as (protein and fat). I would recommend you starting to try this only with fruit. Let's do it as an experiment...then maybe if you feel you can control it, try bread , or other foods.
