Guest guest
Hello! I was wondering what day you were going in? What are you getting done? My fiancee is going on the 17th and I will be with her. Would be nice to meet someone on here before we go! > > Hello...anyone having their surgery around Sept 16th? Guest guest
Hi everyone, my surgery date is sept 14th and I am extremely nervous yet excited. I would like to know, what should I expect once I get into the van that changes lives? :-)
Guest guest
I just have to say that Sept 16th will be my 1 year anniversary for my VSG. I am 3# from a normal BMI and still losing weight, albeit slowly. Hope to be at that goal by the 16th, and then go down a little further. Good luck! Great decision you have made!!Danae
Guest guest
Congratulations Danae! It's good to hear from you. I'm so proud of you and your progress, that's terrific. I bet you're getting wonderful compliments from your family, coworkers and patients. What an inspiration you must be to them! Keep up the good work. In response to the questions about complications, I had some persistent diarrhea from some antibiotics I took for a bladder infection. I saw my family MD and was examined, had labs and was treated and my insurance company didn't blink an eye. Also, she is getting all the routine labs and the barium imagine tests I needed post-op and they are not questioning it. I let my family doctor know beforehand what I was doing (don't be surprised if they've never heard of the VSG and ask YOU questions - I'm in the medical profession and, besides some surgeons I know, no one knows what it is). I think, once you've had the procedure, unless your policy specifically excludes "problems related to surgery you had for weight loss in Mexico," they can't refuse to pay for treatment if you're having some problems. You may have difficulty finding a doctor who wants to take care of you with out of country surgical problems, but I don't think that'll be an issue, Dr. Aceves is that great and his post-op complication rate is very minimal. My own personal success story - I had surgery on 1/8/11 and have, to date, lost 92 lbs!!! Started at 230 and now weigh 138 lbs. My goal is 125 lbs and I may be able to do this by Christmas. I posted pictures of myself on Facebook. My husband looked at my before-pictures and asked, "Why did you photoshop your head on that fat body?" And he was serious! My family MD asked me, "Would you do it again?" I told her, "In a New York minute!" Good luck with your decision, all you seekers and lurkers. Guest guest
I was just sleeved on the 19th of aug so I can only share what I have dealt with in the aftermath, but it is all still fresh. You learn real quick what " sip " really means. If you are a side sleeper, be prepared to adjust that for a week or so. Supradol is your friend, its a non narcotic they give you but only send you home with one box of four tabs. Get more b4 you leave at pharmacy when you get your nexium. Unjury non flavored mixes well with apple juice. Go to the maternity store and get a belly band. It helps support your tummy while incisions are fresh. Smelling good food is as good as tasting if you aleady have 4oz of protien in you stomach. AND lastly, your greatest fear should be the drive between the hospital, hotel, and boarder crossing. They drive like maniacs down there. After that ride the surgery was a cake walk lol! Bless Enesto he must have been a derby racer in a past life cuz we all walked away safe. Guest guest
The ride for the San Diego Airport to Mexicali is only about 1.5 hours. It goes really fast. And Ernesto the drive is pointing out things and talking with you. There will be other in the Van to, so you will get to know them and become friends. Guest guest
I really appreciate your travel worries. Let me help put your fears to rest. I live in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada. ( North of North Dakota) The day before my husband and I were to travel home I was feeling very emotional, a little uncomfortable and tired. I cried at the thought of travelling to San Diego, flying to Denver and waiting 2 more hours to connect to my 2.5 hour flight home. I promise you... I was fine!!!!!! What a difference a day makes! Everything went well and I was fine the whole trip and didn't have any aches or pains the next day. You will be fine too! I have no regrets for paying for this myself, no regrets for travelling such a great distance and no regrets for making such a life changing decision! Shine On! > > > > > > LOL..Thanks so much for the advice! I DO fear the ride..Actually > afraid of the length of the ride. Do you remember how long a ride it > was? Guest guest
Mine is the 15th, so we will be at the hospital together I am also excited beyond belief and anxious for the time to go by so I can get this over and done! I'm keeping my eye on the prize, so I'm trying not to dwell on the actual surgery. I just want to get a life, LOL! > > Hello...anyone having their surgery around Sept 16th? Guest guest
Oh I agree the day before I was going to leave I felt awful. I even called the air lines and ordered a wheel chair. Next morning I got up took a shower and felt great. NO need for a wheel chair for me. You are going to be just fine. Hugs, Suzanne In a message dated 8/27/2011 9:32:26 A.M.
