Guest guest
You get Ativan the night before surgery to sleep and then you get Versed pre op. So... yes. At least if it is still done the same way as when I had my own surgery. On Wed, Jun 15, 2011 at 10:31 AM, ca_josh <letsslamit@...> wrote: Hello All, Do you guys know if the Dr. gives anything for anxiety right before you go to the suregery room? Guest guest
Yes, they give you a sedative.Unfortunately, when they wheel you into surgery, it is still a leap of faith. But that never changes, I've had surgery twice before my sleeve. For me, after 39 years of being fat, I wasn't going to let fear keep me from a better life. Guest guest
Hi, I have no idea, but call and ask. They will tell you, and if you want something let them know. They really do try to accommodate you in anyway they can. Guest guest
Let me say there is no reason to be anxious (although I know its pointless to say that since we all were). I had my VSG on 2/18/11. To date I have lost 73 lbs and have gone from a size 22 to a size 12. I remember actually crying when I was rolled into the operating room because I was scared to death since they were speaking in Spanish but within a few minutes of being in the operating room, I was out. Everyone checks on you frequently once you are back in your room and the pain was so minimal that it wasn't a problem for me. I have had no issues at all since being home. This decision is not one you will ever regret- I promise. I wish you tons of luck and just know we have all been where you are going- we will be here on the other side when the new you emerges! Guest guest
Hi , BINGO, said it all perfectly! We can say over and over don't be nervous or anxious. Well she is right, we can say it, but you are still going to have these feelings. It is normal and OK to feel this way. I do have to say I didn't not cry at all. I am older and I knew this was my answer to changing my entire life. And boy has it ever. I see a lot of people who struggle when they get home. And we have all said that the 1st month is the hardest month that you will have to. Your new stomach is NEVER (thank goodness it can't ) hold a lot of food or liquid. You are shocked at how little food you eat at first and think that something is wrong--NOTHING WRONG at all. This is normal. Because of the surgery you just had and your stomach being changed, what you have left is quite swollen and so it only has room for food about the size of your thumb--look at your thumb and that will explain why you can't get in all the water or the protein at one time. Eating becomes a "job" you have to take a long time to eat. I would sip water or protein drink ALL day long, and at first I could never get it all in. But it was WORTH EVERY EFFORT it took to lose my 105 pounds and I have kept it off. You just have to have a little more patience than you have ever had. Hang in there it goes get better each day you do this. In a few months things are a lot easier. Guest guest
I remember getting something the night before and for those of us who weren't the 1st surgery, we got something before surgery. I was out like a light when they came and got me from the room and only remember bits and pieces before they put the night-night mask on.If you aren't offered, ask for it! They are really good about these types of things. I was offered sleeping meds after surgery if needed and even one of the companions who was there with a fellow sleever even asked for one after a few nights sleeping on a loveseat. They are awesome with accommodating you with anything you need!!You will do just fine!Sent from my iPhoneOn Jun 15, 2011, at 2:41 PM, Jackie Bragg <jackieandgirls24@...> wrote: I think he gives you something the night b4 to help you sleep and then your still "relaxed" when you go to the hospital.
