The roller-coaster of emotions will always be there unfortunately. From a practical standpoint, get all your post surgery protein powder/drinks, chicken broth, etc., for 30 days. And yes, the first 30 days are the absolute worst, the surgery is a walk in the park. You will be amazed how professional and polite the hospital and staff are; it really puts our hospitals to shame. Your are a customer not a warm body tied to a chart.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: "ca_josh" <letsslamit@...>Sender: Date: Tue, 14 Jun 2011 04:32:01 -0000< >Reply Subject: Getting ready for my VSG Surgery 6/18 with Dr. Aceves Hello Everyone,Is there anything that you sleevers would of liked to of known from others right before surgery? What I wish I had known/done before my weight loss surgery

I wish I had taken my measurements.  Because when the scale stopped moving (and it did – several times) the inches were still falling away.  It would have been so comforting to have another means of tracking my success!

I wish I had not stocked up on protein powders before surgery.  People said that their tastes changed after surgery but I didn’t believe that it would happen to me.  I was wrong.  I wasted so much money!

I wish I had taken less “stuff” with me to the hospital.  All I needed was my heating pad, Gas-X strips, passport, camera, a credit card and a good book.

I wish I had been forewarned to be patient with my body and give myself TIME to heal!  It took me about four months for the internal swelling to go down, for the production of gastric acids to get to the right level, and to actually feel like I could eat relatively normally again.

I wish that I had gotten my PCP to do blood work that included a complete vitamin profile so I had a baseline to track against.

I wish that I had taken “before” photos.

I wish that I had done this 10 years ago!  I had no idea how GOOD it feels to lose all this weight!!!

Hi,

First all your feelings are quite normal and we have all had these same feeling plus more I am sure. I want you to know that the process at the hospital is going to be much better than you imagined it is going to be. You will see that the staff are wonderful, kind and caring. Dr. Aceves it just the BEST and you will adore him. Tell him Suzanne said Hi.

Now make sure you have food for when you get home that will work for you during the first few days of nothing but clear liquids. Remember the 1st 30 days is the hardest you will EVER do, but it is only 30 days. It is just a BIG change to your life considering how you have been eating. Don't panic if you don't get down all the water or that you find a protein drink that you like the 1st 10 days. Just do the best you can. Sip water ALL day long. The next 10 days get much better. The last 10 days is good too.

If you just want to talk or you have questions, please ask away.

Keep us posted as to when you leave and how you are doing.

Hugs,

Suzanne

I found the first 30 days so easy to do and loved the 27 pound weight loss. I

tried coconut water [found at the grocery store]--it is full of electrolytes. I

worked to get 90 grams of PROTEIN per day in the first 30 days by doing one GNC

Isopure Shake {after day 10} and one GNC Isopure ZEROCARB drink. The shake is 50

and the zerocarb is 40 grams of protein.

Six weeks out--my NAILS look great--the best in my entire life. I had no idea

that I needed this much protein--but I do. Month two---I have a 10 pound weight

loss goal. I just started a water aerobics class--that feels so refreshing--and

I walk 2 times per day.

Yes my energy was up/down over the past 45 days, but I make sure I am getting 64

oz of water. One thing that helps with this is I juice ONE lemon and ONE lime

each day and add stevia and a little crystal light to a 36 oz mason jar. When I

do my morning shake, I split it into two 12 oz jars. I drink one ASAP and drink

one later in the day. BY having my FLUIDS laid out in several container at the

start of the day, it is a total no brainer.

Hi

You are on of the few who I know likes Isopure. Unless they have changed it, so many of us think it taste like YUCK. I am glad it was easy for you and that Isopure works.

Not everyone feels it is easy and NOT many can get in 64 oz of water everyday. I wish you well.
