Guest guest
I agree with , lap bands are a very hard life. I've had a band then revised to a sleeve. When they talk about the band being the safest surgery type they are talking about the actual surgery. Long term lap bands are very dangerous and full of risks and complications. A girl that had a band when I had my revision to a sleeve just emailed me last weekend. She almost died and had to have emergency surgery to have her band removed. She's revising to a sleeve next month. Every single person in our Phoenix support group has revised to a sleeve or bypass with the exception of two who can't afford to have their bands removed. So, they suffer. If you go to a band board all the people that just love their band are newbies. It goes like this, those that have had their band for 0 - 6 months are in love with their surgeon and their band. Those from 6 - 12 months figured out their surgeon didn't do the work, they did. So they are in love with their band. From 12 - 18 months the problems start kicking in but the scale is moving so they'll deal with them. From 18 - 24 months they are fed up and considering revision. From 24 months on they are revising to a safer surgery type. If you want the surgery that is the least effective, slowest weight loss, least weight loss, highest regain, and serious complications for life, that's the band. If you want the safest surgery type long term with vastly superior weight loss, that is the sleeve. I had a band and now I have forever reflux from the esophageal damage. With bands they are probably the most expensive surgery type long term. The fills, unfills, xrays, re-operations for slips, and then band removal.. if you are going to Mexico you are self pay. You will be self pay for all the complications as well. I wouldn't get a band unless you already have a good $20K in the bank for the complications. If you want the least expensive long term, that's the sleeve. You get it and forget it. This is the Aceves Bandster Group. Hardly any of us have bands anymore, I'd say 95% are sleeves now. Think long and hard, revision surgery is expensive and far riskier than working on a virgin stomach. Guest guest
Hi, I am so glad you said this first. I wished she would read about all the people who have had problems with their lapbands and ended up having them removed and had sleeve surgery. I hate to always be the 1st one to day PLEASE DO NOT HAVE A LAPBAND. Please consider having the "Sleeve" surgery. If it is about the cost of the surgery, in the end you will pay more with your fills and unfills and the chance of having it removed. Guest guest
I agree with that. This is mostly a sleevster board now anyway. If you're going to come here for encouragement, get the sleeve and you won't have to listen to everyone say you should have gotten it. What is it, $2K more?????? Do it. The next time pennies fall from heaven for me, I will too (ie revision). Guest guest
Listen to Bipley and save yourself a lot of problems. I had the Lapband done in 2006. At first I thought every thing was fine...but us "bandsters" had nothing to compare it to. Life with this Band is difficult. If you go out to dinner with friends, you have to scope out where the restroom is, and make sure that if you are in a booth that you are on the outside...since you will probably be going to the restroom more then once. The cost of the surgery and the travel to and from Mexicali all adds up. Now I am trying to get the Band out. I just want it done!!!!! I need to decide if I will replace it with the sleeve or just take my chances with going it alone. The thought of not having anything scares me. I don't want to gain back the 80 lbs I lost. You are being offered advice from people that have "been there - done that" You should really consider the sleeve instead of the lapband. Guest guest
Hi Lyne, Your pain is caused from the gas that they pump in your stomach area so that they had enough room to put your band on. It will go away in time.
