I took a week off after my surgery and that was plenty of time (I too have a desk job).  I did find that I was very tired though.  I would go home at lunchtime and lay down, and I went to bed much earlier in the evenings than is normal for me.  But I got my strength back in just a few weeks.

Just be gentle with yourself and patient.  Remember, even though you will look and feel fine, you are having major surgery so give yourself time to heal.

Congrats on your decision!  Your only regret will be that you didn't do this sooner.

Have you taken your measurements???  DO SO!  You WILL regret it if you don't.  Because when the scale decides to get stuck (and it will) the inches will still be falling off.Pack light for your trip - you should be able to get everything you need in one beachbag size carry-on.  You can wear home the clothes that you wear there.  In the hospital you can wear their gown and use a second one as a robe.  Wear flip flops there and you can wear them in the hospital to walk.  Take the soap and shampoo from the hotel to use in the hospital.  Take the smallest purse you can find - it just needs to hold your drivers license and passport and a little cash for tips.  You don't want to be lugging a suitcase after surgery.

Take clean underwear, deodorant, a comb or brush, a heating pad and Gas-X strips and some chapstick and you'll be set!  OH!  And a camera!  You'll want to get photos of your new friends!

I took my laptop and should have just left it at home - I wasn't on it that much and could have spared myself the extra weight.  A good book was all I needed.  When I wasn't walking the halls, I was napping and they do have English language stations on the TV if you're a TV addict.  Or you can visit with the other folks there having surgery.

When you start to panic and wonder " What on earth am I about to DO to myself?!!? " remember - that is a normal emotion.  We all went through it.  Voice your concerns and fears here and we will help you through them.  Next month is my one year anniversary (sugri-versary!) and I am SO HAPPY that I had this surgery I can hardly express it.  My life is SO much better now in so many ways, including my health.  So when you wonder what you are about to do - you are about to SAVE YOUR LIFE!

(((((HUGS!))))) to you!Cheryl
