Guest guest
I drank Isopure punch drink. It's pink in color and clear. It has 40 grams of protein per bottle. I drank it over ice. I only had to sip two bottles a day to get the required protein. It wasn't torture and it wasn't enjoyable. It was like drinking medicine that tasted tolerable. I bought it at GNC. The rest of the day I drank organic chicken stock from costco. Kept me hydrated and added a little protein. The salt in the stock settled my sleeve. It was enjoyable. Goodluck. It gets better from here. surgery date was 9/22, liquid protein questions Hello all:very pleased with my progress so far. a few issues:1) low grade headache - treated w/children's liquid tylenol last nite, which worked well.2) liquid protein - tried unjury chicken soup (bleah!), not feeling hopeful about unflavored unjury powder. liked Vita4life Strawberry, but couldn't consume very much at one time. used 1-1/2 packets to make jello. so 1 qt. of jello = 45 gr. protein. working on consuming this much jello by the end of the day very difficult.tried isopure grape protein water - couldn't handle the tasteI'd really like to get in the recommended 70 gr. protein but I'm failing to see how I can manage this during the clear liquid stage. So, a couple questions:1) Can I shorten this clear liquid stage at all? I know I can get the protein in on the full liquid stage.2) Any other suggestions for liquid protein during this stage? THANK YOU THANK YOU!! Guest guest
I mixes the unflavored unjury with 4oz of apple juice and drank it with a straw. It seemed to limit the contact the stuff had on my taste buds. I don't think.i ever hit 70gms in any of the liquid stage, but I did the best I could. Guest guest
Just be careful with apple juice early out. I had trouble with dumping due to the high sugar content. I know that others have not had that trouble. I also had dumping with carrot juice. Now, at 8 months out it's not a problem. Guest guest
I also tried all sorts of different portein drinks in the first weeks post op, all to which were horrible and I could not tolerate the taste. The only ones I found that were tolerable were the Premier Protein shakes that Suzanne suggested. 2 a day would give me 60 grams of protein. I must admit that I did not get in the required amount of protein while on the liquid/mushy stages. It was much easier once I progressed to the solid food stage. I would not suggest shortening the liquid stages as your tummy is still healing and you want to make sure you do not do anything to upset your staple line. Just keep in mind that the first 30 days are tough but after that it gets much easier. I know it's tough but hang in there. Best of luck to you!!! Guest guest
Thanks for your response. Can you eat whatever you like now, but in much smaller portions? I currently have the band and I can only eat pureed foods. I cannot eat 90% of the foods I used to eat. Are there similar dietary restrictions with the sleeve? Guest guest
Jim, I am 9 mos out, have lost 99 lbs! (can't wait for the next lb. so I can join the triple digit club) and can eat pretty much anything I want. I just chew the heck out of the food, so it ends up the consistency of baby food in my mouth and only swallow little bits at a time. I eat small meals throughout the day and sip fluids inbetween. As to the quality of the food, you need to make sure you're getting in quality proteins, then fruits/vegetables and very few carbs. I have noticed that there are certain foods that trigger more gas and upset stomach than others. White flour, very spicy things and gas-producing vegetables/spices are not very tolerable. I keep Gas-X gelcaps in my purse, in my desk, in the car, so I have access to them if needed. Everyone is different. Some cannot tolerate sugar because it causes dumping and slows weight loss. I never had that problem. You just have to find what foods are tolerable to you, and that's mostly a trial and error sort of thing. Hope this helps. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi, NO do not shorted the clear liquids. But here is what I did for those 10 days. I didn't worry about the protein that much. When you get to the next stage there are LOTS of good protein drinks that you can have that will work great. Try these OK. Protein Drinks. My all-time favorite is: Premier Protein Drink. It comes in 11 oz. drink boxes already mixed. There are 30 grams of protein in each box, 160 calories per box, 1 gram of sugar and 5 grams of carbs. The flavor I buy is Chocolate—that is all I can find at Costco. I get mine at Costco and I understand that you can get them at Sam’s Club too. You can order these on line at Costco and Sam’s club. They are also available at this Web Site. http://www.premiernutrition.com/product.html I pay about $25.00 for a carton of 18 drink boxes at Costco in the city where I live. I drink one of these every morning for my breakfast and nothing else and it has been almost 3 years since my “sleeve surgery.†The next Protein Drink that I have tried is called: Matrix 2.0 Mint Cookies made by Syntrax. You can check this out on this Web Site. http://www26.netrition.com/syntrax_matrix_page.html The cost for 2.16 lbs. is $22.99 plus postage. Item # 39-0963 My next Protein Drink that I have tried and like is: Nectar, Variety Pack, you get 13 single servings in a variety pack. The cost is $22.95. This is the Web Site and they are made by Syntrax also. http://www6.netrition.com/syntrax_nectar_page.html There is one other Protein Drink that I found on Obesity Help.com that was rated On www.ObesityHelp.com they have a lot of different information about Protein Drinks and they list so many different brands and people have rated the ones they really like check this site out. It has a lot of information about almost all the protein drinks that we find out there. Hugs and take care, Suzanne In a message dated 9/27/2011 9:52:50 A.M. Guest guest
Hi Jim, I had the band for almost 5 years and just about anything I ate that was not a liquid came right back up, which left me feeling hungry because I could not get food down. The only time I felt full was when I would have soup or a milkshake. I never had the feeling with the band that I could eat a few bites of food, have it stay down, and feel satisfied. My band was either too tight or too loose, there was no happy in between for me. I now have the sleeve (3 months post op) and I can eat pretty much anything, I have not had my food come back up, it stays down. I would say I can tolerate about a 1/2 sandwich in a sitting and I feel like I ate a brick I am so full. I feel like the sleeve is all that the band was promised to be. The band was a horrible mistake for me even though it may work for others. Just like any WLS you should make sure that you are making healthy choices. I would say that you can have the same things with the sleeve that you could with the band. The only difference is that I think with the sleeve you would be able to have solid foods without the vommiting instead of having to live off of pureed foods for the rest of your life as you have been with the band. Good luck to you! Keela From: jimmylove210@...Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2011 08:07:40 -0700Subject: Re: surgery date was 9/22, liquid protein questions Thanks for your response. Guest guest
Jim, I don't have any food intolerances. I can eat anything in small amounts. I have the bad habit of not chewing as much as I should but no consequences. Just finish my food too fast. Old habits die hard. I do make sure that I eat what I love because I eat so little. You will love your sleeve! K Re: surgery date was 9/22, liquid protein questions I mixes the unflavored unjury with 4oz of apple juice and drank it with a straw. Guest guest
Hi Keela: Thanks for your e-mail. I can totally sympathize with your band situation as I am currently experiencing a lot of vomiting and food intolerances, and this is over two years post-surgery. I don't know what you were told, but my doctor told me that I wouldn't be able to eat chicken and steak after the band. He should have said chicken and steak and 99% of the foods you used to eat. I regret not getting the sleeve initially. As a revision patient, were there any problems or complications with your surgery. I fear that Dr. Aceves will not be able to get my band off. I know it is totally irrational but I can't help it. Anything else you could tell me about your experience with Dr. Aceves would be much appreciated. Take care and stay in touch.
