Guest guest
Hi Sally for me I had the very same thing. I would take tiny sips of water, and for a long time and room temp water worked much better for me than cold walter. It has been over 2 years now, so I can't remember how long it did go on for me. I really had to chew thing up in my mouth until it was almost like a liquid because I chew it soooooo much--something I NEVER ever did before in my life. Like so many of us we just inhaled the food and would swallow it with very little chewing. Maybe other people will have information to share with you. I really do work at setting my spoon or fork down and chewing, chewing and more chewing--it is a life long habit that we have to develope. So if anyone else has anything to tell Sally, please jump in and make some comments. Hugs, and take care, Suzanne Hi y'all, As I said, it's been a month now since I had surgery. I wanted to know if this is common or should I have it checked out. During my VSG, Dr. Aceves repaired a hiatal hernia as well. I know what a hiatal hernia is, where it's located and how he repaired it. But, ever since surgery, even drinking just water, after I swallow, it feels as if there is something caught in my throat at the base of my throat. It reminds me of pre-surgery, when I would eat too much and then have to swallow some water to wash the piece of food out of my throat. I'm not eating too much at any time. As I said, I can get this feeling just be drinking water. It's worse when I eat food, and I'm being very careful to chew and chew before I swallow, even cottage cheese. It does eventually go away. Sometimes I have to sip a small amt. of water to help. If everyone here tells me this is something that they've experienced and that I just have wait for it to stretch out, then I will wait. But, if this is uncommon, I will either contact Dr. Aceves or my own PCP for further investigation. Thanks in advance for your help.Sally
Guest guest
Hi Sally, It's Priscilla here...we met in Mexico! Had my surgery the day before you on Jan 6th. I'm having the exact same problem! And having difficulty getting all the protein in. I too had a hiatal hernia repaired at the time of my VSG surgery. I think we'll find many others who are experiencing/did experience the same thing. I'm eager to see how many replies you get and when they say it got better! Guest guest
Hi Sally, Just to be safe, and for your peace of mind, zip off an email to Dr. Aveces. That being said, I can tell you it took me over 3 months before this feeling went away for me. It is so hard to remember that our stomachs are still swollen and healing when we look and feel so good on the outside! But that poor little tummy went thru MAJOR surgery and it takes a long time for the swelling to go away. I think I was about 6 months out when I realized I could eat more than 3 ounces at a time - and that's not due to my tummy stretching. That's due to it being healed and no longer swollen. Hang in there - it gets better every day. But go ahead and drop a note to Dr. Aceves. It won't hurt, it doesn't cost, and they like to hear from their patients anyway! (LOVE those folks!!!!!!) I'm off to ROCK a pair of size 14 jeans, my cowgirl boots and a DARLING suede jacket in a MEDIUM to the local Rodeo with my girl friends. Thanks to Dr. A!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Sally, I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue. I would definately contact Nina and have Dr. Aceves call you. He should be be able to tell you if it's something you should be concerned about, or if there is something you can do for it. There is such a varience in each of our experiences. I really haven't felt the way you describe with this new sleeve, but when I had my band, I had episodes like that. It sounds similar to when something actually did get " stuck " above the band. In that case, I'd end up throwing up. There have been only a few times of discomfort with this new procedure, and those times happened when I drank water too fast or when I ate a little ground beef that was in soup. But it sounds like you're doing everything by the book, so call Dr. Aceves today! Hope it gets better soon, Love, Pam > > > Hi y'all, > > As I said, it's been a month now since I had surgery. Guest guest
The best form of protein that I found that worked for me and I am still using to this day is Premier Protein Drink and I get it at Costco. It would take me all day to drink these two drink boxes but I was getting at least 60 grams of protein. Costco now have a Vanilla flavor along with Chocolate. One drink box has 30 grams of protein. So in the beginning I would drink two a day. Suzanne In a message dated 2/8/2011 12:16:24 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, psinc96@... writes: Hi Sally,It's Priscilla here...we met in Mexico! Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, Thanks for your suggestion. I've read on different boards that people really like that one from Costco. I bought it too but just did not like it...was too sweet and thick for my liking. Right now I'm using the Unjury Chocolate Splender but not everyday. I use their strawberry sometimes too but I don't really care for it. Priscilla > >> > > > Hi y'all,> > > > As I said, it's been a month now since I had surgery. Guest guest
Thanks everybody for your kind advice. I've got a new problem now. I've read in the previous posts about many of you having problems with constipation. Well, I never had that. Ever since I got back from Mexico, I've had a problem with diarrhea. I'm a nurse, I should have put together the clues better, but I didn't, and the diarrhea went on for about a month. Not bad, usually every other day, two or three times that day. I just thought it was surgery/anesthesia/little food/extra fluids, etc. I finally went to my PCP, who cultured my poo and told me I had C. Diff. (Clostridium Difficile), which was probably the reason for my diarrhea. While I was in Mexico, I was diagnosed with a bladder infection and treated the whole time I was there with IV antibiotics. These antibiotics not only killed off all the bacteria in my urinary tract, they also killed off all the bacteria in my digestive tract as well. Another opportunistic organism (c. diff.) took over my GI tract and has been causing bloating, gas and the dreaded diarrhea. I'm now on medication to treat it and I'm doing better. I contacted Dr. Campos who agreed with the prescriptions and has me back on a soft diet for now. I am in NO WAY saying this was a problem caused by Dr. Aceves and his group. I've seen this often in the US with the use of any antibiotic given. This is just a warning to anyone out there (you know who you lurkers are) to not blow off persistent diarrhea as "it's nothing, it will pass, it'll get better on its own. . ." Get to your PCP and have them examine you and possibly test it (yes, the collection of your poo is pretty gross, but necessary). If left untreated, this could have caused permanent damage to the lining of my intestines. Guest guest
One of the ways I make mine not so sweet and it isn't think is I put it in my Magic Bullet and blend it with ice cubes. It really takes a lot of the sweetness out of it and it is more watery and not think. Give it a try that way. Suzanne In a message dated 2/11/2011 5:08:27 P.M. Guest guest
Gee Sally, I'm so sorry you have C. Diff. now but glad you are feeling better already with the medication.
