Guest guest
Hi, I have 2 questions I wish to ask about: 1. Which is more effective, the sleeve or the lap-band? 2. Which one is less life threatening? Sincerely, Janice J.
Guest guest
Hi Janice...Weight loss: bands average about 1-2# per week, sleeves 2-3# per week.Long term weight loss: Bands are about 50-70% of your excess weight loss, sleeves are 70-80% of your excess weight. Long term risks are fewest for sleeves, no slips, erosions, port infections, etc.No aftercare for sleeves, bands will require a lifetime of aftercare.Sleeves can leak after surgery, the risk is there for the first month. Dr. Aceves does three leak tests before you leave the hospital but if you do not follow the post op diet you risk a leak for the first month or so during the healing phase. This could prove to be dangerous. With this said, Dr. Aceves has never had a leak with a sleeve yet. For example, if you were to eat steak during the clear liquid phase you could cause a leak. It's critical to follow the post op diet. With a band if you do not follow the post op diet you risk losing your band. If you do not follow the post op diet with a sleeve that could be dangerous for you.
