Guest guest
Hi , You may want to consider getting the sleeve done due to the complications you are having. I've been following everyone's progress and needless to say. It's been a journey for all of us.I really need you'lls help on this one.I was banded in 12/06 and I lost a total of 50 lbs.I had my first complication in 8/08. I had displayed some slipage at this time I was filled at 3.6. . Needless to say I had to get it removed for 6-8 weeks and take the nexium route until I had healed.I was filled again with a slight progression to 3.2. up until 8 weeks ago. I experienced some light slipage. I had become ill and as a result a lot of coughing and heavy breathing I had to become unfilled for another 6 weeks. This six week time I have gained almost twenty 20 lbs and I'm really scared. I now have 3.2. and I've had it for 2 weeks and I barley feel the resistance. I'm continuning to gain weight. I have a very strenous workout routine. I work out 6 times a week with weights and hard cardio. I've never had a blood pressure issue but now my B/P is 122/93. This is high for me. I'm going to see a fill dr here in Florida tomorrow and I want more fluid. More of a fill, but because of the slippage I'm really afraid, but I'm also afraid of gaining all of this weight back. Please provide any sugesstions. I'm also going to a general M.D. to request blood work. If you'll have any sugesstions of any blood work that I should have please tell me.I really need your help. Guest guest
I have been looking into being banded or sleeved. I just talk to a doctor in California that does bands and asked the question about slippage. He stated that when he does the surgery, he takes a piece of skin from the stomach and attaches over the bandso there is no slippage problem anymore. Maybe you can see if they can do that for your band. or if this was done, please let me know. I am really doing a lot of research before having any surgery. Guest guest
Hi ,I won't be of much help on the blood work issue, but do have a couple of questions for you if you want some advice How much weight do you need to lose? You say you lost a total of 50 lbs, did that bring you to goal or do you have more to lose, if so, how much? I have gone through similar issues as you and had to have a complete unfill and do 4 weeks of clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 1 week mushies.I was down to 126lbs and a size 4 (from 240lbs and a size 20). I gained 20 lbs during that unfill. I had 1cc put back in (Dr. A told me to go slower than that but I talked my fill Dr into it here, what a mistake), I was overfilled again and had to have .4cc taken back out. I'm down to .6cc in my band. About 2 weeks after my period, I can eat anything - 3 homemade caramel rolls for example (they aren't the BIG cafe ones), then as I get closer to my period I get tighter and tighter until I'm down to eating just creamy stuff for the week, then the cylce starts all over. I tend to FREAK out during my "looser" times and think "I have to get a fill NOW" then I wait it out and realize if I had a tighter fill I could hurt myself (meaning my band). Does your body seem to react this way too??? Are you at a time in the month when you can eat alot and you are worried?? I would love to help if I can. Let me know.CyrenaDOB: 1/19/07240/141/150start/now/goalFrom: benyam02 <sheegog@...> Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 12:46:58 AMSubject: I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP Hello bandsters, I haven't been on the site for a while now. Guest guest
, I too had a band but switched to the sleeve when I was NEAR my " sweet spot " to avoid the complications you had (and to be able to swallow pills whole). The band was grand but the sleeve is sweeeeeeet. You will still have to chew, chew chew or you may slime and lose what you tried to eat but there are no fills, nothing to slip. gloria banded 12/05 sleeved 3/24/08 210/140/?? > > Hello bandsters, I haven't been on the site for a while now. Guest guest
Hi Ann, If you are doing a lot of research then you will see that there is a lot of aftercare involved with the band. You never hear any of us that have had the sleeve talk about all these issues or problems. I would highly suggest that you consider the sleeve. So many of the banded people have come back and converted to having the sleeve. I wasn't sure at first if I should have the band or the sleeve--the more research I did the more I knew the sleeve was what I wanted. For me I know that the sleeve is by far the best choice for me. And Dr. Aceves is absolutely the best you can find any place. This is just my opinion. Living with the sleeve is so simple and easy. No problems at all. Guest guest
Thanks Cyrena for an AHA moment....because I go through exactly what you are talking about. Where sometime I wonder if I even have a band because I can EAT and there other times where its a liquid day and I never put it together with having my period! Hope you are feeling well! Guest guest
Ann: If you go back and read all about the band and the sleeve, I think your choice will be fairly easy. The question is do you want to invest more time and money into the band to keep it at a sweet spot - fills/unfills - slippage, etc. Or do you want the sleeve that is virtually maintenance free. That is what helped me to choose the sleeve was the fact that I didn't have to spend more money and time finding a doctor who would be close enough to do the fills and unfills and keep my restriction stable. The sleeve is so great! I love mine! Good luck! Guest guest
I can't imagine there is a doctor around that does not sew the band into place. They take stomach tissue from under the band and bring it up to the upper stomach and sew it in place. They've been doing this for years. Bands still slip in spite of this. Guest guest
Hi Nora, I NEVER had a lap band. The only surgery I have had was the sleeve. After being on this site, and reading everything for about 6 months, I knew that they sleeve was the only thing I wanted. I know for many of you the sleeve wasn't an option when you had your surgery, and some of you have had great success with it. You will love having the sleeve. It is so much easier. Now nothing is just plain and easy, you have to put some effort in it yourself. Like eating the right things, exercise and paying attention to what you are putting in your mouth. Guest guest
Hi , Go for the sleeve--it is called a revision. You will have a much more normal life with the sleeve. I have never had the band, but I highly recommend the sleeve. It is permanent and I can maintain my weight loss for the rest of my life. Guest guest
I think you mean scarring has formed over the band, that's supposed to happen. It will always happen when you put a foreign object inside the human body. It doesn't happen because of exercise, it happens because that is what the human body does. I'm not sure what you mean by it " turnded " ... clarify please? If you want a revision to a sleeve just call Nina and schedule surgery. It will take longer than a standard sleeve because of all the scarring and adhesions that have to be removed. A typical sleeve takes about 40 minutes, my revision took 1.5 hours. But I don't regret doing it, it was the best thing I ever did. Guest guest
It is so easy just get ahold of Nina let her know you are looking to get the band removed and the sleeve done. You fill out all the same paper work you did when you got the band. They do recommend you get and upper GI to make sure there is nothing wrong with the band to where they could not get the revision done right away. I lived close enough so I went down a week before my revision had all my pre op work done and a complete unfill done at the same time. It is a really simply process. I will be amazed with the sleeve dont put it off and start enjoying food again and still lose weight. Kathy > > U currently have the band and I've had it for about 3.5 years. Guest guest
WHEN I SAY UT TURNED, I REALLY MEAN IT FLIPPED AND WAS UPSIDE DOWN. THE DOCTOR COMPARED THE FLURO FROM 2 MONTHS PRIOR AND IT WASN'T SCAR TISSUE IT WAS THE FORMATION OF MUSCLE. I'VE HAD FLURO'S AFTER TO CHECK FOR EROISON AND THANK GOD. I'VE HAD NONE AT THAT TIME. IS THE RECOVERY TIME THE SAME? DOES ANYONE FEAR THE STAPLES IN THE STOMACH AFTER A PROLONGED TIME? LISA
Guest guest
This is curious since there is no way to tell on fluoro what type of tissue it would be. Â Scarring is supposed to happen, not sure how a muscle could grow around a port. Â Also, you can't diagnose erosion on fluoro, that requires an upper endoscopy. Â Do you think maybe you should get a 2nd opinion? No problem with staples, they are titanium, just like the back of your port. Â Recovery is the same for band or sleeve. On Mon, May 17, 2010 at 6:22 PM, lisa gebreslassie <sheegog@...> wrote: Â WHEN I SAY UT TURNED, I REALLY MEAN IT FLIPPED AND WAS UPSIDE DOWN. Guest guest
Cyrena that is exactly the problems I had with my band. My dr. here in the US did not believe stress or periods made it tighter...whatever!!! To top it off my cycle is not regular so I only get it once every 3 or 4 months and then it is killer tight and my band is empty! , I have been reading alot about band slippage since mine is slipped right now and I am going to get it removed on Monday. I think the weight gain and the problems could mean a slipped band. You may need to go have a barium swallow done so you can find out what the problem is. Dont put it off, a slipped band can be serious if it doesn't fix itself. Best of luck! > > Hi , > I won't be of much help on the blood work issue, but do have a couple of questions for you if you want some advice How much weight do you need to lose? You say you lost a total of 50 lbs, did that bring you to goal or do you have more to lose, if so, how much? > > I have gone through similar issues as you and had to have a complete unfill and do 4 weeks of clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 1 week mushies. > I was down to 126lbs and a size 4 (from 240lbs and a size 20). I tend to FREAK out during my " looser " times and think " I have to get a fill NOW " then I wait it out and realize if I had a tighter fill I could hurt myself (meaning my band). > > Does your body seem to react this way too???
